He does look upset with himself for fleeing like he did and he is going to have to live with that for the rest of his life. From what I gathered, he was right there with his family and actually had to put the baby down so he could jump..... :smt102

I wonder if they will be using the words "love, honor, protect" in their vows..

That shit to me was crazy. Risking your life for some strangers sounds good on paper but if dude didnt make it out all his mother would have is a nice story. Fuck that women and children first nonsense we're all equal right? Stuff like this makes you think what you would do in the same situation.

You guys crack me up. How many life or death situations have you been in like that? Its really unfair to judge. I feel sorry for the dude.

    Children, really???

Pretty sure that hero's mother would be proud to know she raised him well.

ive been looking at it both ways too

gunfire is a completely different animal

you really dont know how you'll react until you experience it

until then, everyone's an armchair trooper

    :p

like i wrote earlier, even with extensive training, people still freeze up or just run for the hills

google about guys stationed in Iraq that wouldnt go 'outside the wire,' even with the support of the world's most powerful military because they didnt want to catch a random bullet or IED

I said I didn't judge him for the decision he made............

But on the other hand being a woman,,,, I am not sure how I would have reacted knowing my man and father of my children fled and left me....... Plus he asked her to marry him that same evening which is why I made the vow comment.

Not at all but i think we often times think one sided. The guy who fled probably didnt do it consciously like "oh shit Im out fuck my family" fight or flight is a very real thing. Anyone who has ever been in a life or death situation can tell you that. Im not saying it was the "right" thing to do probably just natural. We watch too many movies with heroism amd think that shit is natural and its not. The dude who risked his life for them did a nice thig I guess but I wonder if he thoght about who would have suffered if he lost his life saving others who will soon forget about him. Shorty didnt seem that thankful, Ive gotten more heart felt thank yous for giving a parking spot lol

I dont have kids but I did some shit like that when I was 13 and my mother slapped the shit out of me. It wasnt as dramatic as that but she was sobbing like crazy because she was worried she could have lost me. Btw before when I said you I meant you in general not you personally my bad kid

One time I was at a club when one of my friends got into it with some other dude. Dude got his ass whooped went to the car and started firing at the crowd in the parking lot. I saw grown men piss themselves. Guaranteed they never thought they wpuld react that way under pressure but you really never know
This shit aint a video game

that's why i wrote before in another thread, about not really being able to 'shoot to wound' when you're in a firefight

unlike Call of Duty, you have a variety of mental effects that occur as a result of being shot at, as well as specific tactics performed to utilize said effects (such as suppressive fire+maneuvering for example). The military channel did an interesting piece on the effects of stress on shooters, and could be a real eye opener for the uninformed. So many guys had a hard time just hitting the target in general, when under stress.

that's why you have long, drawn out firefights instead of insanely accurate, one bullet-one kill

I'm too tired to go back to you original post about not saving women and child.

When I flipped my dodge in '03 and the first responders walked around that car and asked me repeatedly if I had been the driver..

The ONLY thing I could think about during the 20 seconds it took from start to finish (I know..not under attack with live rounds..very different)..

Was my three babies. My two boys in the back and my daughter in the front. And when we finally (it seemed long) came to stop..disoriented as I was..I could only think about getting out of a flipped car so I could get my babies out.
I crawled backwards on wrists and feet and ran to the other side..grabbed them all and yanked them out.

There simply wasn't any other thought. When you are in a stat of panic and facing possible death..the maternal side knows nothing other than making sure the children are ok. And I know the paternal side is JUST as fierce.
I will reserve judgement because we do not know what went through his mind. Only he knows and what he chooses to disclose is his right.
Normally though..there is very little thought for self preservation..without the parent..the children have nothing. Bu parents rarely think "imma check myself first and then see if they are ok"
The thinking process does not work like that.

What really pisses me off is that because of this our movie theaters are now going to turn into air ports.

Also as a culture we are very much trapped in our own bubble, and do not give a fuck about anyone else. Im sure if someone took the time to notice dude was batshit crazy this could have been prevented.

Also I remember in the Trayvon Martin thread Painaro, and certain others brought up that the black community needs to keep its people in check after a black dude was shot walking home........I kinda get The Dark Knight for making that obvious satirical comment.

    Calling him a coward..?

None of us were there. People were gettin slaughtered left and right.

Who here has been in the line of fire with dozens of magnum sized bullets coming at their face and chest in a close range dark room? How did you react?

    A lot of should've, would've, could've.

He should've tried to protect his family. Its sad that he didnt and even more sad that they all had to be put through this involuntarily.
