It would be a good move, I think. I don't want to paint them all with the same brush, but many of these programs admit people who would probably not be admitted to a "real" educational institution (by which I mean not capable of doing college-level academic work). These students then take out huge amounts of debt without acquiring any skills or experiences that make them more employable than they were when they started.

As a quick example - there is a large for-profit institution in my city that trains people to become vet techs. They graduate with around $30,000 in debt and take jobs as vet techs that pay about $13/hour. I would not mind seeing such programs shut down.

yeah They are way over priced. I dont understand why people would go to them. even if you arent collge material you can go to a community college or a trade school teaching the same thing and much less with more respect in the community.

phoenix U and the like gets no respect from me.

there is an issue to address. the college debt is getting out of control

Yeah, under the best of circumstances these institutions are problematic, and I suspect that a lot of them engage in practices that are downright predatory.

no doubt. I saw a new investigation show that profiled these types of schools and they showed them lying about what they can really offer as far as rewarding careers.

I hate to sound mean but you have to be a dumbass to go to those schools because I went by one after I graduated from a nonprofit. I wanted to take a microsoft word class and they wanted to charge about 1200 bucks. this was back in the late 90's.

They came off like salesmen than advisors. trust me I thought I was buying a car
