College Choices

It definitely matters fam. I don't know one person who went to a top tier school that's out of work fam unless the industry itself collapsed.

 

I'm just laughin because you (and not just you) throw around "I know people who" and "a lot" a great deal.

Yall know some of the most dysfunctional, smart, lazy, strong, weak, people I have ever met in my life. Yall know PhDs who don't have jobs, highschool drop outs that a millionaire. Never met anyone from a big 10 school without a job ....the list in endless.

I have been all over this world (literally) and I have never met a more eclectic, bunch of people in my life. Its really fascinating.

 

I've made some changes, here's the new list of colleges, there's 8 now:

- Boston University
- Northeastern University
- University of Massachusetts
- Rutgers University
- Syracuse University
- George Mason
- George Washington
- Georgetown

George Washington is still the primary school of choice I'd be going to, the other 7 are backup schools. The area (the mid-atlantic and Northeast) is a pretty liberal region of the United States, so it should be easy to get along with everyone also, unlike if it was a school in Tennessee or West Virginia.

 

Hey man if i can give you advice I'd say Rutgers hands down. Its a great school all around.. but they usually treat transfers from CC's in NJ better than out of state students so while the school is awesome be careful because they may not take a lot of your credits.

After that I'd say: You cant really go wrong with any of the DC schools

Don't go to Syracuse..period

Also don't Knock WVU yes its predominantly white but the few times I went down there I was doing work and having, but I don't think its a great school academically

Well Northeastern is in Boston so again I generally would advise not going to Boston and Massachusetts in general unless of course you want to go to Harvard lol

I'd say Georgetown and then Rutgers but I don't really know you what you truly look for in a school..

I personally turned down Georgetown and NYU because they were a) expensive and b) Socially they were not going to be as fun as Rutgers.

So if you are looking for more academically orientated then go to school in DC. If you want a good balance then Rutgers imo .. SyraCuse if you have to

Also the BU is a good school but like I said I've met alot of transfer from there and they hated it

I'd prefer about a 50/50 mix of both. A school with some social outlets and also a great education. I think DC, plus Rutgers would be the best place for that. The recommendations you guys have proposed have really helped me out, I'll be in a better position for when the Fall semester at community college shows up.

I've found that the best colleges for me to attend after community college would be a decision between Florida State and Rutgers. As long as my GPA is around 3.0 (for Rutgers) and around 3.2 (for Florida State) I'm pretty confident I could get acceptance into the universities.

Also, I was wrong about my graduation date, I'll be eligible for graduation by the Fall of 2011 (graduating in December), not in the Spring of 2012. That's according to the community college's website, since they say that you've got to complete about 75% of the degree program before you're eligible for graduation, since I'm going for the bachelor's degree, then the graduate degree at the 4 year school, and not just the assosciates degree.

Once 2011 is over, I'm looking forward to some great times socially, academically (getting great grades) and partying with beautiful white girls.

 

Satyr, Florida State has been accredited since 2001, and Rutgers has been since 2008. You should be aware that there are a limited number of schools to select from anyway because of this degree. If you looked at the NSA site for the schools in California, there were only 6 listed and I don't think they were very good schools to go to.

I'm also trying to avoid going to commuter schools which are basically extended community colleges. Some of the schools, in my own home state, like Towson and UMBC are both commuter schools. They drive up there and then leave. Hence, that's why I'm not applying there, because of that reason, and because of gasoline prices/demand in the future.

 

Florida State is a shit school and besides there is only one real choice:



You won't be going here, but you owe it to yourself to get into a school as close to it as possible in terms of academics.

My mom is very sensitive and protective of me when it comes to college choices. She wants me close to home because she's worried with how I'd handle things on my own, being kind of far from home. I haven't mentioned about it to her yet, but with the way things are, leaving home beyond community college would be inevitable. I am old enough anyway by now to make my own decisions, it's not like she can dictate the path of another adult's future.

My dad doesn't really care that much about it, as long as I have the degree, and I'm happy being out there, that's what matters.

I'll never understand how people around here that have never been to Boston will knock it down to dust. Fuck em. From someone that knows a lot of alums, just kick Boston University and UMASS from the list. I don't even know how UMASS makes your list in the first place. Nothing of substance going on out there.

I cannot verify but i would imagine the other 3 aren't much different.

That is not the reason i recommend them to you, it's simply that they are all reputable institutions.

If that part in bold is truly the case, then make your decision. These people around here are gonna mess with you to mess with you....and if your parents are contributing to the cost of your education in any way, then they have a big say in it. If they don't, then like I said before- just.do.you.
