Hey guys, I might need some help here on figuring out what school to go to after community college. Money isn't going to be an issue with going to a 4 year school because you could get a federal scholarship if you have a 3.0 GPA (3.2 GPA for some schools) and you've got a clean criminal record. I've got those things so far, the difficult thing is figuring out the ideal college to go to that isn't too far away from Maryland. The scholarship details are here. http://www.seas.gwu.edu/cybercorps/... scholarship program for 2011 competition.pdf Anyways, after doing some research, these are the colleges that I've founded that I could give a shot at applying to: - Boston University (MA) - University of Massachusetts (MA) - Rutgers University (NJ) - Syracuse University (NY) - Pace University (NY) - George Mason (VA) - James Madison (VA) - George Washington (DC) - Georgetown (DC) - Florida State (FL) Out of the 10 colleges there, I do need a little clarification on what it means if I were to attend Georgetown. http://collegesearch.collegeboard.c...l.jsp?collegeId=3736&type=qfs&skey=Georgetown In addition to the other things it mentions about the college, it says that the type of school is "Roman Catholic Church" and "Society of Jesus". I have no idea what it really means for relations between black guys and white girls at that particular university. Hopefully someone with more experience and knowledge about religion has some ideas.
It's about securing the internet networks. They call it "cybersecurity". Basicaly you're working for a federal government agency and you prevent things like the Wikileaks breach from happening. It's going to be a lucrative career that I'm eager to embark on.
Ok first of all I am in florida. so Florida is really far away from Maryland. lol I would think FSU would be off the list. I would go to : - Rutgers University (NJ) - Syracuse University (NY) - George Mason (VA) - James Madison (VA) If you want a job when you get out, go to a VA school. They have a high tech government job area. The rest of my picks are highly ranked in science and/or engineering but are expensive as hell. That's why I didn't go to syr.
Thanks for correcting me, you're right. Anyways thanks for your recommendations. It's been a help and I have a clearer idea of where I'd be going now when I apply for colleges next year.
Did you look into University of Maryland University College? They have a new cybersecurity program. Or is it too close to home?
That's what I was thinking! The university of Maryland is the only place on earth that has a transporter! like on star trek only it is very very crappy...
I'd say George Mason as well and you should think about Vtech too. Great school especially for what you're doing and they have instate tuition. UVA is also a great school but a little far from you. I like the U of M idea too. But I would stay away from private institutions unless its MIT Cal Tech or maybe Columbia but otherwise its a waste especially Pace. Stay the hell away from that school over priced with no hopes of employment.
The curriculum at that school is online-based for two years, meaning you don't see people. At the other schools, it's face to face. I was hoping to get more out of college than just my degree. I was also thinking about getting fridays and saturdays to party and hang out with cute girls also. Basically, it's a work hard-play hard atmosphere I'm trying to get out of a 4 yr college.
None of the above matters. All you need do is pick a regionally accredited school and graduate with a degree. Unless you are trying to get into an Ivy League school or dartmouth, Duke, John Hopkins, Rice, Vanderbilt, or one of those. Pick a cheap school, in your area and get your degree.
My history degrees is from MD, and I've gone back to pick up another Undegrad Business. UMUC is a work hard, work hard program. And if you don't have discipline and time management it will kick your ASS!
A lot of the schools he mentioned like Georgetown George Washington and Boston U are top tier like the schools you mentioned.
What a strange list, you have Georgetown and bunch of other schools most people don't care about. If you can get into Georgetown, go there.
No, they are not. This guy is not doing liberal art majors. Top tier is Stanford, MIT, CMU. It is a different game in science and engineering!
To me, it doesn't matter that much. I'm not necessarily looking for the Big-10 Division I schools that are obsessed heavily about Football. I'm not really into Football. I'm also trying to avoid going to schools that are too big in size, because in a bigger school, there's a greater chance that you're called by your Student ID instead of your name. That's why some people complain "You're just a number here."
I go to the second most populated school in the USA. I have yet to see that happen. That's just talk.
lol@ a lot its a crazy list, if he can get into and afford a school like George Town...go. But really it doesn't matter.
I got one that is 73 but the rest are under 20. It really depends on your major. If you pick biology or accounting then you are going to feel like that at almost any university.
Oh, I see now. That makes sense. There aren't that many people doing cybersecurity so I probably wouldn't feel that way. I'll be completing community college by May of next year. That means the Fall semster is typically the critical time to get applications in for where you would be going to school.
