Do you know of an Australian TV comedy series called "Home Sweet Home"? It was about an Italian family - one of the character's name (I think the father's) was Enzo Pacelli and the son's, Tony pacelli.

Another favorite is "Mind your language", a british comedy TV series. It was about an ensemble of adult foreigners of various nationalities trying to learn english as a second language.

And let's add to this list, other faves of mine:

N.B. - The adventures of Richie, Potsie, Fonzie, & Co. were at their best during the 1st three seasons; Ditto with Tom Baker's version of Doctor Who .. It's merely a coincidence that, not only were both Tom Baker's Doctor & Henry Winkler's Fonzie were originally dark, sardonic, brooding, menacing characters who, in Tom's case, made his travelling companions more than a little on edge..and in Henry Winkler's case scared the hell out of the fresh-scrubbed 1950's teens, but also the actors in both shows started to camp up their lines, as the production values [qualities] slipped, and both programmes devolved into ignorant pieces of slapstick from 1977-8 onward, yet, still massively popular in the ratings..

And, yes, the SPANKING NEW Doctor Who is a GAS! But alot of my m8's Stateside *do* miss the 'Golden Age' Doctor Who [1963-1989] on their local PBS stations...

As far as Red Dwarf is concerned, I am of the opinion that the 2009 "Back To Earth" hiccup in continuity [The 1999 series finale was never *truly* resolved to my satisfaction] has plenty to do with this taking place in a Parrallel Universe...as opposed to "our own"; I could get into a whole big thing about how the Captain Kirk that died in the "Generations" film was *not* "our" Kirk, but it all ocurred in another dimension, and just happened to meet up with "our" Picard, but I'll skip it..

" 'Allo, 'Allo! " was a HELUVA show to follow...

It took me seven years after the show ended to (finally!) catch the series finale after war ended...

My fave episode was the one where they were all speaking in rhyming dialogue a'la Dr. Seuss...

Tom Baker was a tough act to follow. And to date he has been the longest serving Doctor in series history. 7 years, 1974-1981.

    O'YEA! And how...HOW could I possibly forget:

N.B. - I was one of the unfortunates to actually *see* Tommy Cooper DIE on live television whilst onstage....Like Redd Foxx's equally sad fate (where his colleagues thought he was funnin' with his classic "Fred Sanford's BIG ONE" routine), Cooper's fans thought HIS having passed ending in a flop behind the curtains was part of the act that he was playing to the hilt. Unlike Redd Foxx's public demisse...Cooper's death was caught on LIVE telly *in the middle of a variety show*....and *no one* was the wiser until the show ended later on......

At least he went out with a rousing finish..

    Totally, totally horrific...

    Damn...

AnMDBCartoon, that top pic is a show called "Keeping up Appearances" isn't it?

Somebody put me on to that show a few years back. It's pretty good.

Maybe I'm just too young, but when I think of old-skool TV, I think of this:

"KEEPING UP APPEARNCES" - whilst being hilarious as hell - is the *only* show where I'll give the screen the finger and tell Hyacinth 'Go Fuck Yourself' one moment, and then HOW with laughter the next...and vice-versa..

Here's the thing: Our family had an in-law who was *exactly* like her! The second wife of an uncle from my Dad's side of the family. Who'd, for instance, REFUSE to buy ANYTHING but national brands of tinned veggies (i.e. "Green Giant, Del Monte as opposed to Seaway or Seneca, etc.), bought a 1.500 dollar chronometer/watch for Uncle Ed (It later conked out & Ed was quoted a *fortune* to have repaired), and things like these.

By the same token, she would always, *always*, ALWAYS cook Ed *ALL* the things that were BAD to eat. (He had 2 heart attacks and she served him grease & fat laden meals daily)

All the while she constantly (and paradoxically) proclaimed "I'm So GOOD to Eddie!"

So it's no surprise that, when Dad told me the news of her sudden death in 1983 (Ed preceded her in death 2 years prior), Dad met me at the front door of our household when I came home from school...with the words "I hafta tell ya something, son...and do me a favour..Don't go cheerin', yellin' or clappin', alright?"

Ennyroad, here's *more* telly series that I'd like to see again..

There is (was?) a US telly network known as "TV LAND"...run by the people of Viacom/Paramount/CBS....

The station used to run a whole cornucopia of classic US telly..

From what I'm told....those bloody yobbos at TV LAND now screen anything that is classic telly programmes...and now air shows (and cinema movies) that have *little*, if **anything**, to do with nostalgia-oriented broadcasting...

[Rhetorical/sarcastic query mode]Tell me......where the HELL is society going nowadays?[/Rhetorical/sarcastic query mode]

    Sad.

Remember there were two actors who played Lionel.

When I was a kid it seemed everybody liked the other Lionel better.

What was that photo of that guy talking to that Black couple? I like to know the name of that show. Also I love Keeping Up Appearances and watch it every time I have a chance. Loved the two actresses who played Rose whose randiness knows no bounds. Hyancinth Bucket was a trip and there are a few episodes where some would stand up to her. Onslow is one of those few who did.

Ok. Some trivia for you. A lot of people didn't realize that the opening M.A.S.H. theme has lyrics. For 50 cool points.

What is the title to this theme?
