For Gods sake, stop paying attention to those people! They are an extremely small and isolated group of wingnuts. They represent Christians in the same way that Tea-Parties represent Americans.

Exactly. There is definitely NOTHING Christian about those psychos. They are just another extremist hate group terrorizing society with their ugliness. There is NO basis for hate in Christianity...Jesus loves EVERYONE, and He expects those who call themselves Christians to do the same.

They are labeled a church but really they are nothing more than a cult.

And anon has threatened to shut their shit down if they actually do protest.
A guy I know who HATES Obama posted a meme with the president drinking a beer and his thumb up and the caption..
Anonymous threatens to shut downWBC? Fuck it. You have my blessing or some such with his own status reading Rigth The Fuck On.

So even the WBC can bring Obama haters together for a common good.

The near-universal consensus on that organization is driven by the fact that they got their start looking for publicity by protesting military funerals. Their tactical mistake is that the segment of the population most open to their homophobia is also fiercely supportive of the military. Cheering at the funerals of fallen soldiers is a losing proposition. The group should be condemned to the dustbin of history.

    1. I find it very amusing that people are so quick to distance themselves from another Christian group, regardless of them being mainstream or not. Westboro Baptist Church followers are just as much of a Christian as anyone on here. The difference, however, lies within their practices. Anders Brievik, Timothy McVeigh, Charles Manson, and those various abortion bombing pro-life Christian groups are pretty the same. Unlike a lot of conservative-minded people who are devout in their faiths, they tend to be more direct and honest in what they advocate and not try and hide it.

    2. One emphasis on freedom in this country is that these people have the right to speak out in the name of the First Amendment. They have every right, no matter how bad it is, but people often ignore that consequences comes along with it. Free speech only protects you from the government, not from the people that you piss off.

Seriously, you are way of on both accounts! Just because they say they are Christian does not mean that they actually are. The is nothing Christian about them.

Freedom of speech is one thing but when they infringe on others freedom of speech as they do, it is no longer acceptable. Like their hate speech at soldiers funerals and other deeply offensive and UN Christian behavior. So far they have managed to stay on the edge, due to some can good lawyer work but trust me, there will be a time when they have passed the tolerance. From of speech I'd not free. And it comes with responsibility.
I can't believe you actually defend these nuts as Christians but of course I know why.

These nuts actually have more in common with the 'death to America'screaming crowds across the sea... And they have as little to do with Islam as this group has to do with Christianity.

Actually, being a Christian simply means you acknowledge and adhere to Christian doctrine and it's beliefs, especially accepting that Jesus Christ is the son of God. Nothing more. Acting on good deeds, helping the sick out, etc...are a far cry from being mutually exclusive to any religious institution, as these things are embodied in every human being, religious or not. To say otherwise comes off as being pompous.

I would never defend their actions or their sickening ways, but I do acknowledge that these individuals, who take their beliefs in the most literal sense, are often shared by the mainstream, conservative-minded public. When they act on the "God Hates Fags" nonsense, they tend to be more upfront about it than trying to be PC and refuse to come off as being bigoted.

You can't simply dismiss them and claim they aren't "Christians" because you find them repulsive. They maybe a questionable group of people with issues with pretty much everything, but then you would have to say that about the many politicians who actually share their views, but hide behind a smirk on their faces.

Thanks for proving my point on the bold part. They DO NOT. I know what you think about Christianity so I don't expect you to be objective, which you clearly show with your posts in this thread. Actually, all your post about Christianity are noon objective. Still love ya but this I'd so wrong IMO. And hello, I don't say theyare not Christian because they are repulsive. I base that purely on non emotional facts.

Besides, you second to last paragraph is just pain odd, the main stream do NOT share their views wtf! And that has zero to do with not being PC. Just stop.

I have been objective on the basis of Christianity. But to say that there's some mutually exclusive findings within that belief system pertaining to being a good person (or bad - pending your views on it), then I can safely assume that you're too much of an apologist.

As I said, the basic premise of the Christian identity simply means that the individual believes that Jesus is the son of God and their savior to humanity. Aside from that, adhering to Scripture and other things within that organization. Helping the sick, giving money to others, and other areas are not mutually exclusive to the basis of Christianity. The people of WBC fully adheres to the those requirements, despite their own literal interpretations to the Bible. It's no different from Catholics, Mormons, and even more smaller branches of Christianity.

They all share something in common, hence they all are part of that identity. Further, it's very wrong that you don't think the more mainstream (conservative) Christians don't share their views on homosexuality. The difference is that the WBC are less inclined to hold their tongue on how they feel. The rest of the conservative-minded won't express their views so tenderly due to fears of being called a bigot, homophobic, and just plain silly.

And this is all based purely on facts. Apologetic reasoning won't really curb this argument, no matter how much you try.
