Now, I'm guessing that many of you don't watch Tennis, but the U.S. Open is being played right now in Flushing Meadows, NY. CBS has taken over the coverage for the remainder of the tournament. Well, I just got done watching the 4th round match between Tommy Haas (German dude) and James Blake (Amerian brotha). It went to a fifth-set tie break and James eventually lost. Anyway, because it's an individual sport, the network spends part of the match pointing out the various entourages for the players. For Tommy, it was his girlfriend from Cali. She was this skinny, pretty blonde girl whose father is a producer or something. For every other point, they couldn't help but to point her out. As for James, they showed his brother Thomas and his mother, a white woman. My gripe is, however, they NEVER once showed his girlfriend! Now, we all know who she is. There's a thread on here about her. And she's gorgeous. And at first, I presume that she wasn't there. But I'm fairly certain that wasn't the case because she's always in the "J-block," Blake's support, and I actually was able to spot her during one of the change overs. My only conclusion has to be that they didn't show her cause she was white. I know. I shouldn't be that naive. It actually doesn't surprise me. But it does boil my stomach inside. Because just a day or so before, during the Venus Williams/A. Ivanovic match, CBS again showed a close up of Venus' current, very white beau who travels with them. And again, we all know they were together. But I'm screaming about the gross double standard again. It's as if with the brotha, they have to go out of their way just to disassociate his girlfriend from him. We all would expect both the crowd at Arthur Ashe and TV viewers, as well as the J-block themselves to be a bit more liberal when it comes to his relationship. Because let's face it, they all know who he's with. Any casual tennis knows. There's alot more support out there for him, much less, for Americans in general to be successful in our own major tournament. Wouldn't you all think people would be a little more tolerant and understand in this matter? In general, shouldn't these big three networks finally begin to confront this blatant racial double standard?
My hubby has been watching tennis ( I swear the man will watch ANY sport except hockey) anyway, I think the lack of his girlfriend is completely suspect. You ask this? and know the answer, hell fukking no they won't! White men, who in general, run this country, cannot stomach a hot ww with a brotha. If she is with one she better be fat and ugly! I think bm with ww strike at the heart of white supremacy, they would like to think that wm are the supreme choice. Now as far as wm dating out, it's their god given right! And nobody bats an eye because they run shyte!
I sent them a scathing letter. I'm good at that. If you knew of my track record of success, you'd wonder if you'd ever see this kind of stupidity again (at least from CBS). If I get feedback, I'll share. Thanks for pointing this out.

What may make this even worse is that I think "hellspawn72" did not notice Blake's former girlfriend, Jennifer Scholle. Because Heather Mitts is, like Blake, a tremendous athlete in her own right. She is a soccer star (for the rest of the world, football star) and was the key part of the US Women's Olympic soccer team that won a gold medal in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. So, if hellspawn is correct, then the coverage of the US Open may have been both bigoted and porous (bigotry and ineptitude often go together). A sports department has to be able to tell America that two sports athletes, among the best in their respected fields, are dating each other. It took me all of two very fast seconds to find all of this out. CBS completely dropped the ball if they failed to mention this during their coverage. If this happened and I were in charge of CBS sports, I'd issue a few pink slips. ESPN reported that they were dating each other at an earlier tennis event, one that was prior to the US Open. Good job, Bronze. If I had visited the Sports forum of this site more often I would have brought up some of these facts myself immediately after this thread was started. Trust me...the hot blonde girlfriend that Blake had during the Open last year got A LOT of screen time. The camera loves hot blondes with impressive boobs REGARDLESS of who they may be dating. If Tiger Wood's was a hugely successful tennis player you don't think CBS would be focusing on Erin a whole lot, especially if she was wearing a revealing blouse? Come on. By the way I have met with a few people who have run into Blake at bars in Georgetown over the years. All say he is a class act. Its a shame he doesn't win anything. Of course its almost impossible for any male tennis player other than one to win anything these days.
