Whats unfortunate about these types of TV discussions/debates is, the root of the vitriol never gets discussed.

Id bet my left nut that Tucker's hatred for Vick has more to do with his conscious or subconscious belief that a black ex con shouldn't be making that kind of money and less to do with crimes associated with dog fighting. A premeditated statement on national TV as irrational as that doesn't come out of someone's mouth without an ulterior motivation.

Most political discussions today are filled with bias, hatred, prejudice and blind loyalty and unfortunately, their belief's are entertained and respected without question of motive because it simply cannot be proven.

And for the record...I agreed with Vick's felony conviction.

 

Look what Vick did was sickening, but this is America, the man served his time and he deserves a second chance.

No way do I condone or mitigate what he did, because I would never partake in something like dog fighting.

However the man has been punished and that is that.

It doesn't matter what they think, Vick will keep doing him. Hopefully he keeps his nose clean and makes the most of his second chance.

Its like they are incapable of letting go of this Vick situation and moving forward.

I know America is A dog loving country, but people should get a grip! We need to stop thinking that animals are just small furry people. The Anthropomorphism of pets has blinded people to reality.

Is it wrong to abuse animals? Yes. Should Mr. Vick have been punished? Yes.

On the scale of crimes that matter to society, there are about a hundred things worse than dog fighting that you wouldn't get executed for.

I am also personally offended that Tucker Carlson would preface his idiotic statement with his being a Christian. It's so-called Christians like him that makes people think all of us Christians are ignorant and immature.

What Vick did was sadistic and terrible which is why I am not a fan of his and will never root for the guy.

But he did do his time and has been a model citizen ever since getting released from jail.

It isn't about the dogs. It is about the principle. You don't torture. What's the saying christians have? do unto others as they would do unto you. Maybe you should be more offended about someone torturing than another person's comment.

 

The saying you quote is the "golden rule" and it applies to how people should treat each other. We shouldn't apply human behavior and emotions to animals. Talk to any reputably dog trainer. They will tell you, the best way to screw up a dog is to treat it like a person.

Just to be clear, I am an animal lover (I had two dogs as a kid and I loved them very much) but I don't equate what Mr. Vick did with crimes against people.

 

If you talk to a reputable dog trainer, they will tell you the best way to screw up a dog is to torture it(not treat it like a human). They will also tell you that is vile and no animal(human or whatever) deserves to be tortured like what Vick did to those dogs. He should have gotten a longer sentence.

Last I checked, animals could also feel.

I didn't see the golden rule put in human any where when it comes to torture. Do you? You would think it would be understandable to not torture but I guess that only goes to humans. We aren't talking about treating dogs like humans but simply not torturing animals. That I believe the golden rule still applies to.

 

Hold on a second, at no time am I advocating torture or any abuse of animals.
I'm just putting things in perspective. The reason so many people like Tucker Carlson get so mad about this, is because they project humanity on to animals. Look at the lives that most animals live; starvation, predators, injury, loss of habitat disease etc.
Millions of animals are butchered every year in the name of pest control, research, fashion, or food. Were are the people calling for the heads of the ones responsible? Nobody cares about those animals because they are rats, insects, chickens, fish and cows. They're not the cute little ball of fur that curls up at your feet while you watch TV.

Lastly the reason the "golden rule" doesn't apply to animals is because, the rule is a two way street of mutual understanding. Animals lack the ability to sympathize with other beings. For example you might have all the love in the world for a bear, but it couldn't care less about a person, while it's eating their face.

 

Tucker is clearly made a bad comment although I agree with his emotions on this. You don't show how to punish someone by killing them. I never understood capital punishment but 2 years is crazy short for what Vick did.

What I bolded, explains everything that humanity goes through. I am holding this conversation on the idea that when you say animals you mean other animals.

There has been heavy regulations on people testing on animals for research, fashion, food and pest control. Every one has heard of PETA as well. They do fight for a large batch of animals. We have the endangered species list which protects animals(I had endangered animals on my campus). There is a whole lot of it going around.

A two way street means you treat them the same way they treat you, If a bear is trying to kill you, most people will try to kill it or run. not love it.
There are bears that will not try to kill people and give hugs back. Hell, they ride bikes in circuses. Those bears you treat with love not the ones trying to rip your face off. Those are the ones you treat as bad as they are treating you.

Vick didn't try to love the dogs. He acted like the bear. Didn't give a fuck but only instead of eating a face. He got a lot of them and proceeded to participate in either allowing or torturing the animal. Does Vick lack the ability to sympathize with other beings as well?


Note: I am not agreeing with the "animals can not sympathize" parts. I am not all to sure chimps can or can not sympathize. They are very closely connected to humanity.

 

Dogs have better fucken rights in America than fucken minorities and they did not even have to march for civil right movement.
