Can white people avoid being racist?

In light of the Donald Sterling incident some members of my family began discussing once again that white people basically cant help but be raised to be racist and feel they are better than other races. Now I know the knee jerk reaction to this statement is different for everyone but just think: is there some truth to this? Is our society just so incredibly screwed up it's only a matter of time before white people's prejudices come out?

Nah, I think grown adults can choose to think and come to reason and truth, regardless of how they were raised or their surrounding influences. I think alot of white people are disgusted by racism.

People throw the term racist around so much and they level that charge at every percieved slight that we've either forgotten what TRUE racism is or people have never learned.

Racism isn't just a belief its an action. To DO something that affects someone's life adversely in tangible ways based on the belief of superiority.

Calling someone a slur isn't racism..thats name calling. A white man on the street calling you the n-word may hurt your feelngs but it doesn't take food off your plate or a roof from over your head. He may as well have called you stupid or ugly and it would have same effect.

Now a white man who calls you the n-word then having the position DENIES you employment or housing or service..that affects you in real ways.

Thats real racism and Sterling is a textbook 1960s legislative definition of the term racist. He has a history of doing real actions that affected people's lives in real ways.

Now if he had done NONE of those things and that tape was the ONLY thing on him..would Donald Sterling still be a racist?? Or would he be some cuckolded old white man pleading for his side bitch to not bring the black guys she's fucking around him?

 

Not all white people are racists but some white people will never stop being racists

 

I'm just sick of white males obsession with black men out of their personal insecurity.

 

I find the insecurity hilarious, personally. It's nauseating, but so bizarre. Only here can the dominant group fear domination by the dominated. Only here can 40 years of post-Vietnam social changes make us more dangerous and terrifying than whites with the history of the previous 400 years of racial brutality. Not every white person is a racist, people with racist views come in every group. But racist views shape this society in fundamental ways that everyone has to deal with.

 

We can't talk about it on here since the forum is supposed to be a place for unity between black men and white women no matter what.

To what you said in bold, yes. IMO, I would say Technology and Social Media is a large contributing factor to what creates these changes in our society.

I strongly believe that deception also comes into play in this instance. Deception in the guise of fear and anger can be catalysts for action. People do lot of things out of fear and anger. These things were used a lot throughout history. And it will continue on and on if people do not recognize it.


I say a prayer every day that this world moves forward and not back. Some people's minds cannot be changed. Only God can do that.

I think in the MICRO white individuals can live and operate their lives in a manner thats not racist but in the MACRO the dynamic between white people as a group and non whites in this country is designed to be racist.

Just as myself as a individual male am not sexist nor do I try to conduct my life in such a manner but the dynamic between men and women in our society and the world at large gives me an advantage and privilege for simply having a penis that I benefit from or have the potential to benefit from in ways that I'm not even aware of.

so can white PEOPLE avoid being racist (again understanding the true definition of racism)...well factoring in the history of this country...frankly...they haven't so far.
