    This.

Sad because many Americans don't understand.

If being gay isn't against the law, then the ability for one adult to marry another is a civil right.

No one is saying your particular church is obligated to conduct the ceremony, however the STATE has no legal right to deny gay people from getting married.

All these fundamentalists are bitching and whining about how the institution of marriage will be degraded if gay people are allowed to marry, but it you don't know any gay people in the first place, it's unlikely you'll notice much difference when they start getting hitched.

It's still funny for a lesbian to refer to her partner as her 'wife', or a gay man to call his significant other, 'husband', but whatever.

People of faith really need to ask themselves if the overwhelming majority of gay people were born that way, then on some level it must be a part of God's plan.

What you fail to realize by quoting the verses about the law not passing away is that while the law will always remain, the necessity to obey and fulfill its requirements is no longer in effect. Christ’s death and resurrection fulfilled those requirements. When Jesus was crucified, he said "It is finished."

Your reference to the verses in Romans - the "death" that I think you are insinuating (recompence) is not death as in being put to death, but is the death that results when someone persists in sin. It's a spiritual death, moreso than a physical death. We do not put gay people to death today, nor do we put to death adulterers and fornicators.

While some may say that sin is sin, sexual sin is set apart in Scripture as being greater and thereby having greater and harsher consequences. I Corinthians 6:18 says “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body” For the Hebrew nation, which was a people set apart by God from the pagan nations surrounding them, fornication, adultery and homosexuality all had harsh penalties (death). The intent was to keep the Hebrew people pure and unpolluted both from sin and the customs of the peoples around them.

But all of that has to be read and understood in the light of Christ’s life, death and resurrection. It was impossible for man to fulfill all that God required as payment for sin. (God is a holy God, and hates sin. Note: He doesn’t hate the sinner. He hates sin.) So, out of love for man, he sent his only Son to the cross to die, to be the ultimate sacrifice, the fulfillment of all the requirements of the law. And “whosoever shall believe in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” He died in place of those who God formerly required to be put to death for their sin. THAT is why Christians worship Jesus. Because he willingly obeyed his Father and as a perfect man, took the sin of the world on His shoulders so we no longer live under the law and the punishment of it. This is why we say we live in the age of grace, not under the law.

I’m not a Bible scholar, but this is my understanding of the Bible after more than 30 years as a believer. To be sure, there are a lot of seeming contradictions in the Bible, but for the most part, if read in the proper context, and understanding the role of the Old/New Testaments and how they relate to each other, a story of love and redemption emerges.

Homosexual sex is a sin before God

Anyone that believes that eunuchs were homosexuals is very misguided. Nowhere in the Bible is that written. God clearly states in Leviticus 20 verse 13...If a man lies with a man as he would with a woman, both of them have commited an abomination before the lord.

It does not get any clearer then that. Obama is wrong in what he said. We should not defend him just because he is black. WRONG IS WRONG NO MATTER WHO SAYS IT!

The other verses listed are so misinterpeted to try to make people believe that homosexual sex is ok...is very sad....the one that posted them should get on his knees and pray to God to forgive him his sins for trying to lead people down the wrong path

Actually, if you bothered to read into historical texts and understandings of eunuchs, there were individuals, who are labeled as such who actually showed great aversion towards women. Thus, there is a great argument to show that they could have confided to other men, even as sexual partners.

Secondly, another issue is the interpretation of the Leviticus passage. Again, the translations have been difficult to do, and often the context is often lost. Such is the case of the word abomination. It didn't mean it's a sin or evil. Rather, it simply implies (from its original text) that it was abnormal for the time it existed.

Lastly, to say love is a sin is like saying drinking at the wee hours of the night is a sin. Sins are poorly conceived constructs created by people who knew how to manipulate and control the public. These ideas also brought into man-made ideas like God, religion, social structure, etc...

You have the right to your opinion, even though you are wrong. I have 5 different versions of the Bible and each use the word abomination not abnormal. Using the term " for that time " does not apply because God also says in his word the Bible ... that he is God and he never changes. That means what was a sin in those times is a sin now. Homosexual sex was a sin then and is a sin now.

Eunichs from what I have read liked to be around other men true, but there is NOTHING writen to say they were having sex with each other.

Again, those modern day translations from the books you have are NOT in the original text. You're dodging the original argument. Unless you have the original text and can read it, then you really have nothing to counter my point, which is, the original word in the original text didn't mean it was evil or sinful.

And also, if you want to jump in the "infallible word of God," then humans are far smarter and have evolved from that bit of superstition. Ignorance, fear, and superstition ruled the minds and you, as a black man, are still a slave to that idea. Homosexuality, contrary to biblical nonsense, is as natural as breathing. I'm not sorry that you're allowing some ancient text to form your worldview and disregard reason and logic.

We've evolved and you should release yourself from those shackles because you're only creating another chaotic generation of lost children.

P.S. I use facts rather than superstition to lead my life. God is practically obsolete.

Hmmm. If that's what you got from my post, I guess I didn't make myself very clear.

Here's a link that might explain it better. I go to this website often when I'm researching Christian topics because I think they are balanced without compromising the truth of the Bible.

Nice article but I don't particularly care what the Bible has to say about anything. It is certainly irrelevant to the provision of civil rights in a secular democracy.
