You should have heard all the brothas calling local sports talk radio in D.C. once people realized a BM scored the winning goal in OT.:smt029 Shame on Boston. They didn't deserve to win.
I noticed that some of the comments on other sites such as the Washington Post made by people who were defending this guy actually angered white men based on how they were written. The white males responded back saying that we (blacks/other minorities) are the racist ones. Here's a more level headed comment from WaPo. I would say let the nation fall if things move towards that direction. If we have some sort of collapse, I'd probably leave anyway and secure a job overseas before leaving. :smt042
of course they'll react that way, no group wants to be called out on anything that is connotatively negative defend and deflect
Well, generally. Part of the reason is about Science. I remember reading a study saying that we have greater bone mineral density than other ethnic groups. For example, so when we have an injury, we tend to recover faster and the bone is actually stronger than before after the injury heals. The nice thing about it is that the guy's a hockey player and he's successfully made it through. Same thing with Robert Griffin III. He did very well with his studies in school and athletic ability. Hence, he has upward mobility in society and look where he is today, yet a few people still don't like him because of his race and the fact that his significant other is a white female. If RGIII was a white male with a different name, resentment from others wouldn't be something to consider.
boston is notoriously racist to begin with there are other areas with large white populations, that don't behave this way props to brothas in Hockey too
Not that anyone gets a pass for the name calling, but until we stop calling each other by the expression we can't feel insulted, complain or cry racism from others.....As our own term of endearment,.....We, more than any other social group, have kept the expression cradled and alive on a respirator for decades..........
Black people are by no means the only ethnic group that have this double-standard, so I find it disingenuous for people to say that we must stop using it first before we can expect others to. Note the different reactions among the following groups based on whether or not the derogatory reference is spoken by members of their own group or not. Irish with the word "mic" Italians with "wop", "dago", "gini" or "guido" Jews with "Jew" versus "Jewish" Mexicans with "wetback" versus the Spanish equivalent "mojado" Cubans with "balsero" and so on... Many groups on this planet have internalized a way of handling their history of discrimination by subverting the meaning of words and dealing with the pain of their history. Black people are no different. While I abhor the use of the word, I am tired of people justifying its use by whites on the basis of its continued use by blacks.
