The Lingua Franca in the US is English.

Adapt to your surroundings. You don't have to change as a person, just learn to communicate effectively. If you choose not to, so be it.

i work with students ALL day of ALL different nationalities. i have no problem with non-natives, but at least try to communicate properly. i do my best to be patient, but on more than one occasion i've had our international students get an attitude with me b/c i can't understand them! that crap pisses me off.
