I want to thank ABC This Week for the segment on President Obama's Initiative to give young black males a program of mentorship that will give them a helping hand. Only ABC This Week even mentioned it and not CBS, NBC or FOX. Those networks concentrated on the GAY issue. The thing that brought a tear to my eyes was in the segment of young black males who wanted to make a difference in their lives to be engineers, lawyers, and other professionals but, dreaded that they may not have enough time to live out their lives due to the high death rates they face in their communities. ABC This week, showed a shocking statistics that in the first four years of President Obama's presidency 22,000 young black males were murdered at the hands of other black males. It reminded me of another statistic I saw last year that since 1973 to the early 1990's nearly 800,000 blacks were murdered. Most in this society do not give a damned. But at least I give President Obama a lot of credit to bring this issue of the plight of the black male to the forefront of his second term.
I heard about this initiative as well. I am very curious to follow the progress of it. This is a powerful initiative because "knowledge is power", and mentoring someone, is probably one of the most powerful things you can do for a person or a cause or a country. I hope this one doesn't get shot down.
Well in all fairness Bill O'Reilly of Fox news partly inspired him in that super- bowl interview they did together. O'Reilly himself was then subsequently invited to be in attendance for kicking-off the event. Additionally Fox news did give it some coverage of the event through Bill's show......That said, I think President Osama’s Initiative is extremely noble, long in coming and would be a perfect legacy for the first Black president....No other US president is more perfectly suited for this challenge as Obama...If he is successfully, it would be a monumental contribution to the betterment of the country....
Obama didn't say shit about black males he said minority males...plus...ALL males are killed by their own. More mexicans died last year than any place on earth....all killed by other mexicans.
I think this will help some. But, unless we can change the home lives of the vast majority of these kids, I'm not sure if this can work long term. So many of these types of programs benefit kids who have a motivated parental figure. What about those boys who come families where no one really gives a care? That's the problem.
