:? I'm sort of surprised by his statements but I understand his fan base plus the fact that I bet his wife had something to do with it too.

Blair Underwood Upsets Black Fans With 'Sex' Role
Actor Blair Underwood faced a backlash from black fans after he appeared on Sex And The City as the African-American lover of a white character.

Underwood, the first African-American actor to join the sitcom's predominantly white cast, played Miranda Hobbs' boyfriend, Dr. Robert Leeds - a role which he claims didn't meet the approval of some fans. But the Dirty Sexy Money star insists his female fans relented after learning he has been married to Desiree DaCosta, a black woman, for 13 years.

He says, "In terms of the black female audience, usually in your body of work if you've proven that you love your sisters (black women) and will come back home, they will give you a pass when you jump ship. I hear it all the time. I heard, 'We'll get you a pass because we know you're married to a black woman.'"

    There is a pattern here....

    Will Smith = black wife

    Blair Underwood = black wife

    Denzel Washington = black wife

    Forest Whitaker = black wife

    Don Cheadle = black wife

That's not to say that having a black wife means instant success or that having a white wife brings you down. Music, comedy, sports, politics (to some extent), business etc. are fields where it doesn't seem to matter if you have a white wife...but film and TV...that's another matter entirely.

Of course I don't think it was as big a deal for James Earl Jones or Sidney Poitier....so...who knows?!

It doesn't seem to matter much for actors under 25....so....?????

    What does this all mean?

Blair is just really a victim of racist black women, we refuse to call our sistas out on being racist, but we will do it if that person is of another race.
If that ws white men being upset, people would be upset, ut since it is a sista oh they must be right to hate.

It is the same with black men who hate on bw/wm interracial couples, lets not forget what oprah did when she pointed out black men hating on IR couples, but refuse to do it with black women who hate, the same with tyra banks, etc. The only man who had balls enough to expose sistas on that was Larry Elder.

It is a shame that we (a lot of black men) are so scared of our sistas, whether they are your fan base are not, racist people are not someone you want to be apart of your fan base, not all black women are like that and the only way we will find that out is if you stop being scared, because trust me, there are still black female fans of Sidney Poitier's, Seal's, Taye Diggs', Richard Pryor's, etc.

But when it comes down to it, your private life is none of ANYBODY'S BUSINESS!! Thats the down part of being a black male celebrity, when you have racist black fans, it is like you are stuck on what to do.

We (meaning good BM) aren't as hard on sistas because we know what it's like to be BM and that being a BW is just as tough or worse.

Many black families are headed by a single mother....for BM, it's easy for us to spot a good woman because so many brothas were raised by strong black women. Whether we marry white, black, Latina etc., we've seen the best qualities women have to offer. A growing number of BW don't grow up with positive men in their lives so they are unable to recognize a good man when he's staring them in the face.

Sistas get caught up in the idea of a man as opposed to what a man actually is.

All you have to do is read Ebony magazine's "Top 100 Bachelorettes" to see what I mean.......the women want a man that's tall, well-educated, God-fearing, doesn't have kids, in great physical condition, highly attractive, gainfully employed or self employed with lots of income pouring in, strong but not too dominant etc.

Now I'm sure many of you guys on here will say "Wait a minute...that description fits me..." yeah...true...and most of you probably don't have a problem finding a woman if you don't have one already. Our sistas wait until they're thirty to look for the cover model brotha..not realizing that those cats are either off the market...or know they are the hot s*** which means they won't settle down with anyone.

There are plenty of good BM for BW to find....they just need to look where the WW are looking

Is there heat towards Black Actresses who date or marry White men? If there is none then there is such a double standard against brothers who are involved in IR.

Larry Elder is right wing and tends to have an audience that leans towards the right. Therefore he is free from these particular shackles because the vast majority of African Americans won't listen to him in the first place. So he doesn't have to walk any fine line. Good for him.

Anyway while its sad and silly that Blair must "apologize" for having the audacity to have on-screen relationships with white women, the cool thing about him is that he has done it for years without complaining about it or making some ridiculous social stance ala Eric LaSalle. Back to his days on "LA Law' in which he kissed Abby and years later would have a relationship with Zoe (both white females) to his stint on "Sex and the City", to his starring role on "LAX" in which he had a history with Heather Locklear's character and an unwavering sexual attraction to her that threatened to ruin his on-screen marriage, to his recent work on "The New Adventures of Old Christine", "Dirty Sexy Money" and "In Treatment" in which he had blatant sexual relations with white female characters. He has become the male version of Thandie Newton in that he is mostly seen onscreen with a white romantic partner. And I'm happy that producers are going that route with him.

Also He proved to be an intelligent guy when discussing his role opposite Julia Roberts in "Full Frontal" in which his character delivered a monologue partly about black actors not being allowed to have onscreen relationships with white female co-stars. Much of the dialogue of the film was ad-lib so Blair came up with a lot of that stuff himself and n one interview talked about the double standard that kept BM from having far less pairings with WW than BW with WM. Right there I knew he got it. And I knew he could not be accused or dismissed as a some self-loathing, weak-minded black male under the spell of white women's kryptonite. He is a proud man who cares deeply about black people, the black family, God and the welfare of all children in general. Plus he has a black wife who he has been happily married to for a decade.

In that movie Full Frontal that was a good scene, the only thing that made it just an 7+ in my mind is that all that was said but they teased the camera with a kiss. I don't get it, if that was the director's intention for the scene, it seems like it was still bowing down to racism when they missed the kiss to me. But he did bounce back after that so can't fault him there, most definetly obviously the director's fault.

It was the director's fault. No good love scenes just teasing and that's it.

    You ain't lying..

Notice that BW don't have to fear a backlash from BM at all..

You don't see them turning down IR roles or being afraid to be seen with one..

Brothers should should stop punking-out to BW..because MANY of them date IR themselves..or WISH they could.

the punk who created the fear was denzel, if he hadnt made some of the comments he did in the past I guarantee we wouldnt be in the situation were in today.

It's not on BW....it's on BM.

BW will usually sit on the fence about whether they're ok with BM/WW relationships....but you have BM that will try and kiss up to BW and talk about their undying affection for "black love" and their "beautiful, Afrocentric, Nubian goddesses"....this fills the head of some BW (not the majority but a sizeable chunk) when they see a "righteous brotha that's down for the sistas." After being around BM that despise WW and lift up BW whenever they get the chance....BW mistakenly believe that's the way BM should act....and when a BM appears to aquiesce to the demands on his loins and heart from a sexy WW...he gets tarred and feathered for it.

It's a ploy....the so-called strong BM hang their fellow white-meat loving brothas out to dry while they clean up in the dark-meat aisle.

I personally think that if you take all of the culture and politics out of it...and kids grow up without being told what and who to like....you wouldn't see people cling so desperately to those of their "own kind."
