Biofuels boom in Africa as British firms lead rush on land for plantations. Controversial fuel crops linked to rising food prices and hunger, as well as increased greenhouse gas emissions.

British firms have acquired more land in Africa for controversial biofuel plantations than companies from any other country, a Guardian investigation has revealed.

Half of the 3.2m hectares (ha) of biofuel land identified - in countries from Mozambique to Senegal - is linked to 11 British companies, more than any other country.

Liquid fuels made from plants - such as bioethanol - are hailed by some as environmentally-friendly replacements for fossil fuels. Because they compete for land with crop plants, biofuels have also been linked to record food prices and rising hunger. There are also fears they can increase greenhouse gas emissions.

    Recolonization of Africa is underway.

During the British Empire, Great Britain acquired a collection of colonies in Africa:

Egypt, Sudan (Anglo-Egyptian Sudan), Uganda, Kenya (British East Africa), South Africa, and Zambia (Southern Rhodesia), Malawi (Nyasaland), Zimbabwe (Northern Rhodesia), and Botswana. They also controlled Nigeria and Ghana (Gold Coast).

Most Africans were slaves or servants in their own countries during British imperialism. The other ones were puppets or tools trained as agents of the British Crown.

President Mugabe said Britain, Zimbabwe's former colonizer, was still trying to recolonize the country through clandestine means. "Those who colonized us yesterday are looking for ways to come back not through the political route as before but through the economic and social routes. They will come by taking control of our resources, taking control of our institutions and swaying the minds of our people, when they are in that kind of control then our minds will be controlled. Those who control the economy by making you workers would also want to control your mind, they would be economic masters and you would be employees," he said.

The Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, said the British were not qualified to lecture Zimbabwe on democracy as it was the indigenous people who fought to bring freedom and democracy to the country. "They used to suppress us and when we fought we were fighting for democracy, they cannot teach us democracy, it is us who taught them democracy, they should shut their stupid mouths," the President said.

The Chinese are doing a recolonization of Africa as well. Is that not what Sec. of State Hillary Clinton said a few days ago. Why are the Chinese in the minds of many blacks seem to be the better conquers than the europeans?

Thanks for this post, DenzBenz. I hope someday we have visionaries, real leaders in Africa. At the moment, some are mere puppets in awe of the white man, and some are anti-colonial activists that think they are still fighting the imaginary white man.

Unfortunately, we have resources both human and material, yet we lack the sight to see these things. We are pursuing ghosts instead of choosing to focus on our reality. The reality that the whole continent with the exception of South Africa is in a mess. God help us all!!
