Soy, when it's broken down, mimics estrogen in the body. Scientists in Japan have been releasing studies demonstrating how bad it actually can be for people who consume it frequently- in fact, a huge portion of the Asian population have various forms of cancer that these scientists believe are linked to the increased soy consumption.

Up until the last century, soy was considered a forbidden food in Japan and China- it wasn't until people started really going hungry that they changed their stance on using it as more than the occasional condiment. Since then, incidents of various cancers have skyrocketed. Now granted- they are still studying this in depth, so I'm not saying 'OMG, SOY WILL MAKE YOU GET CANCER!' I'm just saying the link is being studied because it's been such a coincidence. And also, when the FDA was considering approving soy as a health food, there were doctors worldwide that begged them to reconsider (many of them doctors from Japan). It's a really curious thing.

I work in breast cancer research, and our patients, if they have Estrogen Receptor positive breast cancer are banned from eating anything that has soy in it because of the estrogen mimic. Those women can have recurrence's faster than a NY minute if they eat soy products. It's so strange. And much of what we eat is already supplemented with soy as a filler because it's considered to be so healthy.

I just try to avoid it. I used to drink soy milk, too. I went back to organic skim milk and will get almond and rice milk on occasion.

Hmm, thanks for sharing. I really don't consume it frequently, but I've never tried almond or rice milk, so I'm going to try those next time and see if I like them and switch. :)

Thank you for understanding me, Ra-Ra. :smt058

I'd hate to be thought of as the other kind of sick southerner.

I don't use it a whole lot either; I'm not much of a milk person. I do buy almond or rice milk on occasion when the store is out of the soy milk I like.

Some people eat red meat, perhaps you are one of them. So, because you eat red meat, would you be as comfortable eating cats, dogs and horses. After all, it's all protein, and animal flesh.

If that analogy isn't convincing enough, how about the practice of some in India and China to eat human fetuses. I mean, we eat baby cows, veal...that's a random animal...that seems like it should be less appealing than eat human babies to me. Call me crazy...

Well, if I had to I rather drink from the tap.

Seriously, the human body was never meant to drink cow's milk. Try water.

I've heard we were never meant to eat meat either.

Everybody should be aware of this, but given that - soy in modest amounts are good for you - especially once your estrogen drops and it can function as a protector of issues that arises when that happens...
For men, its another issue as many knows, too much soy may lower sperm count etc.. so they should also take notice. But again, modest amounts is not an issue.

However, its also the most genetically altered crop there is and that in it self should be a precaution.

See...I knew there was a reason my body always rejects soy milk. It's protecting me. Good body, gooooood body.

i have tasted my own milk, just a little and it has a slightly sweet taste, nothing to write home about

    Theoretically yes,
What turns off people to human breast milk are the identities that go with it. For the most part, a cow is a cow. But start squeezin shit out of Sherri Shepard and we got problems :)

Exactly, FG. I figure that since I'm getting soy in places I don't usually expect, and do sometimes eat tofu, that the last thing I need is more soy in milk.

I have a huge issue with GMOs, too. Those crops are just a big crazy ball of who knows what.

It said this in the article.

Health checks for the lactating women were the same used by hospitals to screen blood donors.
