Here we go again...75 million Americans will be affected. I really didn't take it seriously, but watching the already blizzard, rain, snow and ice storms in the South, and now the disaster in DC being ill-prepared, leading to the Mayor apologizing... l'm bracing. Anyone else in the eye of this storm?
I'm absolutely dreading this. This is what the usually accurate storm team I follow is predicting : Winter Storm Warning - SOUTH CENTRAL PA BLIZZARD WARNING - MARYLAND ! **** S&S FINAL CALL @11PM **** Areas PA Turnpike South To MARYLAND will have the heaviest amounts. North of the turnpike amounts taper off. BLIZZARD CONDITIONS POSSIBLE ALONG THE PA COUNTIES THAT BORDER MARYLAND ! ** Next Update - 11PM FINAL CALL YES we have seen some models pushing 30" into Southern PA. Models remain on track with our second call. We will have our FINAL call tonight as the event is large-scale and we have high confidence for our coverage area ( Mid Atlantic ) Southern teir counties of PA will be very close to BLIZZARD CONDITIONS. This will need to be watched closely. Regardless this will be a HIGH IMPACT EVENT and you should be prepared for possible power outages etc. Yes we have seen some models pushing close to 30" into PA. We will be going thru that data today and watching new models. Our Second call looks to stand FIRM with a few areas in MD and bordering counties in S PA to get local higher amounts then the second call. We will be watching this around the clock. Don't forget to donate if you are able. Our Volunteers would appreciate it. It's what keeps us alive. Really worried about losing power for an extended period or my parents losing it. My dad is bedridden. They can't go anywhere else....
That's what we're expecting here in Philly... My best friend was moving her whole house Saturday.. she had a u-haul lined up, movers all set....Not happening.
30 inches??! Oh man... Do you have kerosene heaters for your parents? Hand warmers on hand? I hope their power stays on ..geez.
My bad. I was born and raised in NYC, but I moved to the DC area when I was 29 y/o. I'm in Rockville, MD.
I barely missed the disaster last night. Luckily I left work on time, and avoided being in traffic for hours.
No. I bought one for us only to find out they're illegal within the city. But we'll only break it out if we really need it. We haven't talked to my parents much about it because we're afraid my mom's going to literally panic. We will just have to wing it with them. If we have power, I'll take my heater to them if they lose it. They live further south than me but I think they're less likely to lose power.
Thanks, hon. I'm in for the next few days...well I have to get some onions and some small items tomorrow but I'm good. So sweet of you to think about us here in the path of the storm. Thanks :freehug:
Oh yeah... Wow. My son had his SAT scheduled for Sat AM but of course it was canx I had to move up my orthodontist appt from the afternoon to first thing in the AM tomorrow My gfs and I also had a wine and paint thing planned Looks like a weekend indoors hopefully everyone stays safe and I pray we don't lose power or at least not for too long!
Getting trapped in a jam is the worst. It happened to me once. Lippy always drives with an emergency bag, as do l. Mine has flashlight, blankets, flashing light, portable battery starter, snacks, drinks, hot coal hand and feet warmers, gloves, scarfs, hats, Under-armour, and toilet paper. Yes, TP too because you never know and you gotta go.
I gave two away during the summer time. Was moving and seriously had no room to take them... And they were the really expensive kind.I slightly regret it today.. But I feel fine knowing that the people I gave them to will be using them if they lose power. I feel you on your mom...l forgot about that. I hope she isn't getting worked up over the reports.
Stores are still stocked here. As of last night, anyway. A lot of people here don't seem to be taking this very seriously.
