Blacks are terrible tippers?

I bet the same people who feel they shouldn't have to leave a tip would have a total conniption fit if they worked all day at didn't get a wage b/c they failed to meet their production goal.

You pay the establishment for your meal. You pay the server for their service.

If you fail, you don't deserve anything.

There is no "have to" in tipping. If there was, it would automatically be included in the bill.

They accepted the job and knew that they weren't going to be making a lot of money.

How does that make sense to you? Do you do that shit at a retail store!

It's not about feeling entitled, it's about wanting to be compensated for the work they perform. If you don't get tipped, you're basically not getting paid for the services you provided. Doing absolutely no work or providing shitty service and expecting to get a tip would be a sense of entitlement. You have it backwards.

So you'd be cool with going to work and not getting paid for it? How would pay pay your bills like that?

I meant "have" as in "expected". And there is times whee it is automatically added like when there is a party to ensure the server isn't work their butt off for hours with no other tables and not getting paid for it.

So b/c someone needs a job and would rather work then sit at home collecting welfare, unemployment, etc. you think they deserve to go to work and not make a wage? It's straight selfish really. If you ask me it's a concept of thinking they should just be your damn slave.

A retail store pays their employee a wage no less than minimum wage. Your paying for your services through the amt. you pay for what your buying. A server is not. They are allowing you to pay for your own services in hopes that you will get the best service by doing so.

I wouldn't be cool with it, if I accepted the job, I would have to deal with it.

How would I pay the bills with that job? Don't know, but I chose a job that wouldn't put me in that position. Others can do the same.

Those folks do deserve a wage, but if they applied for the job and took it, knowing that pay was shit. That's up to the establishment to fix that shit. And nobody is my fucking slave.

"Expect" my ass. Don't expect shit like that that isn't guaranteed.

I usually give a generous tip because I know that the workers need the money more than I do. If I have a meal that's $20 I may leave a $10-$20 tip. With drinks at the club I give a tip of 50% or more as well. It's not really hurting me and the tip money that I give them is usually what I'd blow on McDonald's, lottery tickets, or other shit I don't really need.

I don't look down on people who don't tip though. I think that TDK has a point. It probably would be better for them to be paid higher wages just for the fact that it would be much more consistent than tips. The generosity of people is never really consistent. There's always going to be those who don't tip out of selfishness, the financial inability, or obliviousness to how much the servers need the tips.

I always leave a generous tip. The crazy thing is though, sometime when I use my credit card and leave the tip on it, the servers don't take it out. I'm not sure if they forget or just don't know.

I also don't agree with the myth about Black people not tipping enough. I have a white co-worker who never tips when we go to a Vietnamese restaurant. He only does it when he sees me do it and then reluctantly.

Hmm, what do y'all do for tipping if you have food delivered? How do you decide on how much to tip then?

People take the job b/c they need work. Some people don't last long b/c they don't make enough money or the work is to demanding. If their not willing to do it then none of us will get to be served. The ones who stay doing it obviously are making money. In my area I think the avg. server in a general restaurant is prop. making $8-14 hr. The job itself isn't worth 8 but if folks need the money they will do what they gotta do. And again it's not guaranteed. They can have a bad day, a bad week, even a bad month. There is times when a server may even have to pull money on their pocket to pay the owed tip to bartender, busboys, and hostess and go home with a $0 wage for that day.

So would you support a mandated 15% gratuity added to your bill? If they do anything to change the servers pay that's how they would most likely choose to do that since they do it already for bigger groups and even some restaurants period.

A waitress comes back over and over through the course of your meal. You are "waited" on more. I think a driver who just runs from the car to the door isn't on the same level and his tip should be less percentage wise.

Exactly, but I still tip them generously as well. I think being a generous tipper is essential to the type of life that I try to live, being a giver and always looking out for others. I typically start at 20% and go up or down from there depending on the level of service. Thats just me.

As far as stereotypes, this couldnt be further from the truth. The last 2-4 women that I've dated have all been terrible tippers and would look at me like I'm crazy when I leave a generous tip. Having said that, one of the first WW I dated a few years back worked at Waffle House and she really schooled me on why I should leave a nice tip. She definitely tipped big... this is why I think stereotypes are so pointless.

I'm bigoted to my opinion of this one.

Just pay the staff more and raise the price on the food.

I'm an American with kneejerk republican tendencies.

You let me choose my own price and what price do think I'm going to choose?
It's coolness though. I quit doing food dates in my early 20's.
    It's about activities now.

Gave me some article about some kid in China being rescued, but the url said a family got locked in a restaurant for not paying tip.

Be realistic. How often is that shit gonna happen? You might as well post something like "Man gets ran off road by vigilante after rolling stop at stop sign", and say "you don't think stop sign laws should be stricter?" And even if I did get locked in, the fuck are those lame mofos gonna do. I don't feeli like causing destruction in their place so I'll call the cops. Simple.

Shit ain't my problem. They need to take their wages up with the ownership....or get a different job.
