I tip between 15% and 20%. I want to order in some food, so I always think - how much should I tip a delivery person? They have to drive and especially park and then buzz in and come up to my apartment. Just like a waitress has to take your order, serve you, come back if you need anything etc....
Typo vs using a word incorrectly. :smt068 I think it shows class when you care about others who aren't as fortunate as you. I guess you just care about..........you. :smt069
I just grabbed a bite to eat at the Waffle House. Simple meal, a waffle and hashbrowns. The total is $4.82. Well, 15% is $0.72. Is that really enough??? Im just asking.... Oh, and she was on point.
all this tipping business is too complicated for me. glad i'm in australia where tipping isn't mandatory, but more a reflection of the service given http://www.payscale.com/research/AU/Job=Waiter/Waitress/Hourly_Rate
I'd prefer higher meal prices. Tipping shouldn't be expected its a treat for going above and beyond. The true tip should be my returning business in which the employer should compensate the wait staff since they benefit. It's such childish bullying demanding that someone pay extra because you do.
Correctly, you cannot change, how they get paid, but you can appreciate that they are working and everyone needs money to live. At the end, as Chessy said, in some countries the tip you supposed to give is higher and in other countries it's lower, depending on, whether the tip is included or not. And tips are normal in many low paid jobs, like haircutter and in hotels (i. e. Receptionist ,Concierge or chambermaid)
And whikle had posted how much higher it is to eat out there. I think she referred to a burger she bought at a cafe. So you pay one way or you pay the other. You just have to figure out in the country you visit which way it is. You can't be a world traveler and not adapt to the customs of the places you visit. :smt102 Stizzy I would never leave less than a couple dollars. It's just me. I'm not cheap though. I guess I will leave that to tdk.
They live off of tips; they are taxed heavily, and they also have to tip other employees. 20% is sufficient. I remember this acronym: (perhaps because I'm suspsicious of everyone) To Insure Proper Service Don't want butthurt waiters talking around resulting in my food being contaminated by proxy, but I don't eat out that often anyhow.
The way I was raised you just look really cheap and classless if you don't tip your waiter or waitress. If you get decent service, you should tip at least 15%, good service 20%. I figured it was that way for everyone but I guess not. For many waiters tips are what they live off of. The majority don't even make minimum wage. Whether that should be changed or not is a different debate. To me not tipping is the equivalent of having someone serving on you for damn near nothing in the hopes of getting at least something. They're literally only a couple of dollars away from working for free if they don't get tipped. It's not like you're giving money to some corporation and they're cutting their employees a check. Their pay and livelihood literally depends on your generosity. I really don't understand why some people think it's okay or not a big deal to not tip.
The whole point of tipping is to get the person who is waiting on you to work hard for it. Could you imagine getting the service you get from half the minimum wage employees at your local fast food joint when your trying to have a great night out? Who wants to have hunt someone down for refill? Who wants to have to deal with the attitude of people who apparently do not care if you get your food or how cold it is or how long you have to wait? Who wants to deal with unpleasantness? Imagine your bad customer service at MacDonald's 10x worse b/c that's exactly what it would be like if they were paid minimum wage. Not saying this issues don't exist already but for the most part b/c the employee has to work their butt off, has to be pleasant, has to care just to earn a wage you can generally count on at least getting decent service when you go out. Not to say sometimes it is bad. Waiting tables is hard work and some body's got to do if you want to be served your meal in public. If you don't like the system of tipping my opinion is that you shouldn't eat in the type of establishment that requires it for your customer service representative to get paid for doing their job. To take advantage and receive customer service with out paying for it just makes one not a very decent person IMO.
Am I the only one who has ever heard of minimum wage? Am I the only one who thibks its criminal that a company can shift its respobsibility of psying its staff to consumers who already paid near double the price of a meal for preparation costs? Business does not work based on generosity if it did most of us wouldnt get much.
This. Us deaf people get the same " they're terrible tippers" thing said as well. Poor worker, if they see a deaf black person come into the place expecting service. :smt042 It doesn't matter if the service sucks... that's just one person that could be having an off-day for whatever reason, they'd still get a tip. Also, if the server doesn't seem to be doing a good job but the food is great, I'd still leave a good tip based on the assumption that the people preparing food receive a part of the money as well. Most places at home have the servers pool tips at the end of the night and split it between themselves, the bartenders and cooks (Then again, all the job advertisements I see, they actually make minimum wage... even though it's nearly impossible to live on minimum wage alone).
oh absolutely jordie. our food prices to eat out are more expensive and also the portion sizes are faaaar smaller.
I tip people from time to time now, because I don't wanna hear bitching at me for being selfish or some shit. I still don't think waiters should be or feel entitled to receiving a tip.
That's true. I would feel ashamed, if I sit on a table (alone or with people) and the service doesn't get a tip. It's like taking an advantage out of a situation (don't get me wrong, I also would take an advantage out of situation, if we talk about an adequate amount of money), but because of a few Dollars?? Poor people??? Naaa that's embarrassing.. I don't think you have to give this or that amount, but you have to follow the general habits of a country. Anyway I don't understand what is the problem..Whether I pay now 7 Dollars for a coffee (because it is the price) or whether I pay 7 Dollars (the price is 6.20 plus tip)- where is the difference?
