Chicago is losing a lot of its black population to the south suburbs, where much of the black middle class has moved to, as well as exurbs like Waukegan, Aurora, Elgin, etc. Unfortunately, the city will be left with mostly the urban poor, who often don't own their own property and can easily be pushed out to make way for urban gentrification. US cities are now really pushing the European model, with the poor pushed out of the urban core, as opposed to the old US model with the middle class fleeing to the suburbs leaving a hollowed-out core a la Detroit.
