Maybe quiet and shy is unusual, I don't think loud is a sign of ignorance at all, I think it's entirely cultural, and yes Mexicans (not so much all Hispanics) are very loud too, especially when a few of them get together. It's not just a black thing.

I'm a rather loud white person, and most of my white friends seem to think there's something wrong or rude about it, but really I fit right in amongst a group of Mexicans or Black people who are having a get together, and some fun.

have to agree with ThickShawty and Tinkerbell it is cultural
greeks are lound too most people when they see us talking think we argue :p

I can understand why while we talk lound and scream and we wave our hands around too while we talk, no wonder why people think we argue and punches will be soon:mrgreen:
we are not rude doing this just passionate:mrgreen:

so really nothing wrong to be loud and if someone dont understand other cultures then what can i say

Hubby's aunts are a perfect example of this stereotype. Jesus Christ.

When we visit his family and they are all together I have to leave the room and hide in a quiet place after a bit.

My boys are scared of them because they get in their faces and talk loudly and then call the boys "mean babies" when they don't want to hug or talk to them.

The men in my husband's family, otoh, are among the most quiet people I've ever met. So calm and, well, quiet. Probably feel speaking is pointless. I know I do when I'm there. LOL

Yeah, I think that it's cultural too.
Russians are generally loud. When my English friends have seen my mum talking to her Russian friends, they always think that they're arguing but thy never are, haha.
Northern English are loud, too. Get a group of Northerners and Southerners in a room and there's a huge difference. My ex boyfriend from Manchester was WAY louder than the guys I've dated from London.

I think that being loud depends on the temperament. from this point of view yes, Black people are loud as well as Italians are and a lot of other, mostly southern ethnicities. but of course there are quiet people in all those loud nationalities, cause it's still an individual thing.

My students get loud from time to time. When I showed Beowulf in class after reading the text, the girls made several loud comments during the movie.

scene: Beowulf if fighting the monster, Grendel, while naked.
comment: Move your arm, Beowulf! We can't see your third leg!

scene: Grendel's mother is persuading Beowulf to be intimate with her.
    comment: Grendel's mom's a ho!

Yes, true, ...and Ithink this all ' being loud' thing is also about being outgoing, I've noticed black people in general don't suffer from shyness as much as white people; and they feel free to express their feeling openly; I do appreciate that, and greatly admire that... especially in men :smt053
