Why Are Black Bikers More Likely to Die in Crashes Than Whites? By Meredith Melnick Saturday, September 25, 2010 Motorcycle accident–related fatalities account for 1 in every 8 deaths on the road. And a new study suggests that blacks are at higher risk than whites: for every two white motorcyclists who die in accidents, three of their African-American counterparts do not survive. Johns Hopkins researchers analyzed 68,840 motorcycle accidents recorded by the National Trauma Data Bank between 2002 and 2006. The data show that black riders were 50% more likely to die than white riders, despite the fact that African Americans were more likely to be wearing helmets at the time of the crash. The disparity held up even after controlling for the severity of the accident, the biker's gender and insurance status. White bikers not wearing helmets were still less likely to die in a crash than black bikers wearing helmets; the highest risk group were blacks riding without protective head gear. Still I believe the research is leaving out a lot more statistical measures. More research is needed.
I was not being serious. I was mocking certain people who believe everything to be racist. We have a good number of those in here.
I entered the sharp right turn known as 'dead man's curve' on I-90 east, at 45mph. I started off in the far left lane - then cut across all 4 lanes as I exited at 110mph. I redlined through E. 55th st. at 190mph. I lost the race to this white guy on a Hayabusa - who must have hit 200mph. We both survived - so, I question the science...
All I have to say is, you have balls. I've known several people that have died on that curve--six of them being bikers.
KE=1/2 mv^2, e=mc^2 It's the most incredible feeling. You are completely focused on a single moment in time. The whole world melts away. The race seems to last a small eternity - but it's only been a few seconds. No doubt it's Relativity...
