i don't doubt that, but when yourself and other posters think that first that says a lot about your mindset.
cant argue that but i at one time think it was the indians but I got to know a few and realized they have a harsh accent

The mere fact that many don't even own the stores that operate in black inner city neighborhoods attests to the stupidity of us as a people. Do you see any black stores in Chinatown or in the Italian neighborhoods. Even the immigrants of the late 19th, early 20th century owned the businesses in their communities. Something is wrong with us as a people. Where is the self discipline, business acumen and commitment to social improvement.
imagine that as for social improvement, dont make me laugh I guess i'm part of the problem more so than the solution. I guess I could be more friendly and open towards people I come into contact with. The only way we're going to get over what happened to us throughout history, is by embracing each other and putting our minds together. Life isn't all about stacking money and protecting your own interests. Like Farakhan said in one of his youtube videos (good god, he's quoting a militant), it's all about your sphere of influence and interacting with the people around you. Positive interactions mind you. Some people may need a reminder on what exactly positive means, but that's a story for a whole other thread.
Sad, blacks can't even control SOME of the hair industry designed for them. The Koreans and Chinese are probably going "how they fuck did y'all not see this money market right in front of you?" Need to start selling weaves, not buying them, especially when there's a shitload of black folk out there spending a couple hundred on weaves, extensions n' all this other bullshit when the income ain't that tight.
Nowadays....even white people don't own the stores in white neighborhoods. Something must be wrong with them too. As for the immigrants.. Black people had stores and banks in america before they came here. MOST of America's immigrants conveniently arrived after the civil rights movement...when all the skull crackings...lynchings..arrests..murders...dog attacks...and water-cannons sprayings took place. The things that have destroyed our communities is now on everybody's ass......everybody is under the bus now.. Just look around. The immigrants of the late 19th, early 20th don't own SHIT today...they are living paycheck to paycheck just like everybody else residing in this broke-ass country. Italians and Irish have Indians stores and motels in their communities too. This ain't just about Black people..
Perhaps that. But why just focus on making money off your own people/neighborhood? Isn't it more important to think bigger and get everyone's money? Why be so selective? Thinking along the lines of say a company like Carol's Daughter, started by a bw but a company that makes products that don't have such a narrow focus. She could have kept her products to those that only bw would use but broadened it and makes money off of others. Her company has flourished and made more because of it while not losing sight of making products for bw. I buy several products myself from Sephora. I think it's well known a lot of money and power in Hollywood is Jewish. You don't see them trying to make money just off of other Jews. They want everyone's money. And very little sense of give back to the community from them.
I think he means more along the Mom & Pop neighborhood small buisness level than corporate. I know up this way it seems that more Asian people seem to have that area on lock.
Im sure but hell they started small too. also, you have a large number of whites that have small business going on heavily such as plumbing, doctors offices and ect.... the main thing is that at one time blacks were very self sufficient before intergration. we had rosewood and the black wall street before it was destroyed because they were jealous of our own economy. they wanted us depended on them. If we were taken out like that we would have had stores (possibly) competing with walmart and it would be black owned. look around (before he sold it) we had bet and now TV1 (dont know if it is black owned) and ebony and jet. we have an alabama black owned insurance company (booker t washington) but Im not sure if its still hanging on. now our credit is fucked up and we steadily buying rims and beefing
I agree. But as it has already been mentioned, sucessful business is about getting everyone's money not, just certain people's money. We can't just be focused on only getting black money. We tend to piegon hole and hamstring ourselves as black people and that's why we find ourselves in a lot of the messed up positions we are in today.
Well I get what you, Flaming and JordanC are saying about getting everyone's money, but you have to start somewhere. You're telling me black women can't do their own nails in their neighborhoods, they need the Asian women to do it, look at the money to be made in the weave/wig industry, tangible dollars, you had better believe if Asian or Indian women wore those as much as black women they would be at every point of the process to get those dollars. Flaming mention the Indians own the motels, but who gives them the bank loans needed, probably a white bank that has the deed to their business. We can look at this from as many angles as we may, but at the end there is money to be made off of us as black folks and we are often just the buyers, even in our own neighborhoods. I've heard the stories about black businesses of the past makes us wonder what happened. Our population is bigger than the Asian and Indian populations in this country, so what is our deal within black neighborhoods, besides the obvious tags of racism and poverty, why are we just a consumer market for others.
dont forget red-lining also. lastly, like you stated BW are going to asians to get BW hair products....what the hell !!!. they should be doing it themselves. madame c.j walker the first black millionaire invented the str8ing comb and she shopped it to all the blacks and hired blacks and then it went outside the Black community...then you know what happened. anyway.... we could , should do it again.
What I hear is the Asian retailers get the inside links, contacts and access to those weaves and wigs and its a serious business too, like some Fort Knox shit with protecting their links and contacts to get it to market in the black communities. They want to keep it on lock for themselves because of the money involved. An interesting study would be to see how many Chinese restaurants are located in black urban centers. I mean here in Brooklyn you can't go more than a few blocks without bumping into a Chinese joint. Imagine if those were soul food restaurants.
