Chicago Bears wide receiver Sam Hurd's was busted on Wednesday by undercover Homeland Security agents after attempting to set up regular purchases of marijuana and cocaine to expand a drug sale system that he already had going. Hurd was willing to pay $25,000 per kilogram of cocaine and $450 per pound of marijuana.
The Bears organization released a brief statement Thursday morning: "We are aware of Sam's arrest and are continuing to gather details. We are disappointed whenever these circumstances arise." The former Dallas Cowboys receiver signed a three-year, $5.1 million contract with the Bears on July 29.
According to Jensen's reports, Hurd met with an undercover Homeland Security agent on Wednesday and attempted to set up a system by which he would purchase 5-10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana per week to distribute in Chicago. Here's the real kicker — according to the complaint, Hurd said that he was already distributing four kilos of cocaine per week in the greater Chicago area with a co-conspirator, but that this amount wasn't enough.

I've said it before, the NFL has the dumbest athletes of any sport. He just signed a $5 million deal this year too.

The cost of living stupidly large... Maybe he considered himself part of 99% of low income wage earners and was just trying to fast-track his way out of poverty...

Some niggas take "keepin it gangsta" literally.

This dumb ass fool had a pro contract and still slinging dope. W.T.F. is with some dudes.

Learn to prioritize your life, now he will be one of those dudes rotting away in prison talking about I used to be in the pros and telling all his stories to some young ones years from now. SMDH.

Apparently so, I mean dude has a fresh 5.1 million dollar contract and can't make that work.

The NFL contracts may not be guaranteed and so you can be cut at almost any point when no longer useful, but no idea what his issue was. Maybe he lives that fast of a lifestyle (got like 5 baby mamas, 7 cars parked up on his property, etc) that he is running through paper and/or he is one that still feels compelled to prove something to his boys or some shit like that.

When keepin it real goes stupid should be his motto if his actions were legit as to what he was up to in peddling drugs.

Some would actually argue that while most professional athletes constantly blow their earnings on mansions, cars, and jewelry, Sam Hurd was actually reinvesting his money by obtaing a second job in order to broker various business deals.

Too bad he ended up becoming the Avon Barksdale of the NFL.

Perhaps he should have actually reinvested his money in bonds and other financial instruments.

The thing about the story is that NO ONE, I MEAN NO ONE, from journo's to fans, to anyone around the Cowboys organization over the past 4 or 5 years that saw Sam Hurd from a rookie to when he left last summer, would have had him on a list of 30 or even 50 Cowboys likely to be engaged in dope dealing. The guy put on a massive front and seemed like the cleanest living guy on the team.
