B.B. King Daughter Claims Elder Abuse Police Called in Dispute Over Care 36 minutes ago BY TMZ STAFF EXCLUSIVE Blues legend B.B. King's daughter believes he is being abused ... and called police Thursday to settle a dispute over whether he needed to be hospitalized. TMZ has learned there's a huge battle over B.B.'s care -- between his daughter Patty King and his longtime manager Laverne Toney. Patty, who lives with her father in Las Vegas ... tells us she wanted to take him to the hospital because his urine was orange and he wasn't eating. She claims Toney -- who has power of attorney over B.B. -- refused, so Patty called police. Responding officers called in paramedics, who agreed B.B. needed to be checked out by doctors. 89-year-old King was treated at the hospital -- and Patty says he suffered a minor heart attack. She also says this photo was taken during his brief stay, and she hopes the image will convince authorities something needs to be done to protect him. Patty and her husband filed a police report last November ... claiming elder abuse, and burglary. They accused Toney and her assistant of fleecing $20-$30 million from B.B., withholding his medications while on tour -- and jacking several Rolexes and a ring valued at $250k. Police investigated and no charges were filed. We've reached out to Toney for comment, but so far no word back. Patty says she's meeting with her attorney to discuss wrestling power of attorney away from Toney. ***********000000] Read more: http://www.tmz.com/2015/05/01/bb-king-abused-hospitalized-elder-abuse-daughter/#ixzz3Yu7AThil B.B. Well I think his daughter did that because she's trying to get him help. It's the reality of aging and not getting the care he needs. Isn't it more respectful that something be DONE about it all and hopefully he gets the care he deserves? Take note: "She also says this photo was taken during his brief stay, and she hopes the image will convince authorities something needs to be done to protect him."
End of the day if you aren't personally involved in the care of an elderly loved one, they simply aren't going to get the attentive care they would from you. If you have a nurse taking care of an elderly relative or they're living in an assisted living facility, you literally have to go there every day to check and make sure things are being handled properly. God bless the staff taking care of sick elderly folks, but many times most of them are just waiting for them to die. That's exactly how my uncle looked in his last hospital stay when he died and I was still waiting for him to get well again so we could take him home.
I think this can be true. However, often times families think they are providing good care when it's really more than they can handle and their loved ones end up not getting the best of care. It is often just too much for families to take on with their own life responsibilities, etc. There are also so many cases, like this one, where there is in-fighting with the family/friends. It's good to have a balance between family and professional care. Family members need to realize their own limitations and pull in good help. They need to have a strong presence and be fully involved in the care. Also, there are often many more concerns than medical care. There are Geriatric Care/Case Managers that can be really helpful in navigating it all. Definitely worth the investment!
i thought it was some slime ball journalist. for me though....some times or most i want the dignity intact. when i was in the hospital last year i told my friends not to visit because if i died i wanted them to remember me as the dude they ran with...not the last days when they saw me.
I understand. In this particular situation, the daughter is desperate and wants help for her dad. Your point is well taken and why it's so important for people to clearly write down their wishes prior to things happening. Most will do the basics and write what they want for after their death. However, very few clearly write out what they want in those times prior to death. The best thing people can do for themselves and those close to them is to detail out what they want done. It takes the burden away from the family too.
Agreed. I saw him a few years ago with Etta James and Al Green. It was an amazing show. I knew he's been battling diabetes, but I thought he was still touring even recently.
Waiting for a paycheck is more like it I know many people like this...they'll do what they have to do to keep a job/not get fired but that's bout it When we have relatives come in for treatment, we normally take care of them ourselves because we know how trifling others are
What a legend. I love this man for all he has achieved and have given us. The favorite song of his "The Thrill is Gone" is memorable for me in a dark time with a previous female friend. Thank you BB. May GOD be with you.
RIP BB KING. My father used to say you havent listened to music till you listen to the king and he wasnt talking about Elvis
I feel so blessed to have been able to see him when he was well and happy. It was obvious he was having a great time that night. Even with all that seems to have gone on in the past months, he was able to do what he loved almost to the very end and no one could take that from him. Amazing talent who touched so many lives!
