Chicago, IL (BlackNews.com) - During the month of October, National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, author, Alethea Pascascio will be donating several copies of her debut novel, Bag Lady, to battered women's shelters in Illinois, California, Minnesota, New York and Georgia.

Bag Lady is a tale of Faith Donnovan, a woman whose vision and judgment have been tainted by the pain in her past. Faith's journey takes her into three marriages and an unbelievably bizarre situation with a man who tries to manipulate her with witchcraft. In a desperate search for love and acceptance, Faith carries the cycle of physical abuse from childhood on into her first marriage. Soon Faith finds herself battling a husband under the influence of anger and crack cocaine, and a bubbling pot of oil is her only defense.

"Domestic violence is one of the many ills within society that adversely affects a multitude of people, especially women," Pascascio said today. "It often goes from generation to generation and really needs to be eradicated. As depicted in my novel, Bag Lady, the tables can quickly turn on an abuser resulting in him/her becoming injured or even worse, killed. I would implore everyone to have zero tolerance for domestic violence. We all need to understand that no matter what we saw in the past, abuse of any form is not a substitute for love. Because my novel has been hailed as being a self-help guide, I'm donating several copies of it to the shelters."

Bag Lady begins with Faith's childhood, allowing the reader to understand the progression of her life. But there's a twist! The novel also investigates the healing process that can relieve all of us from the ravages of emotional baggage and physical abuse.

Bag Lady has the privilege of being required reading at Tennessee State University.
