Right now, I'm unemployed. Well, I work at an office my aunt is the manager of, on call as I'm needed. Which is probably at the most, $200 a month. I don't mind the living at home part. Even if I could live on my own, I'd rather live with the parents, than in a place by myself. I'd be lonely :p

Living at home with the parents:
    - Phone: $15 a month, I pay for the texting base plan. A friend pays for the data addon, since they're the reason I need the data in the first place.
    - ~$50 for gas. I give my sister gas money... same price as public transportation, but it's faster and warmer.
    - ~50 in random 'things'. Food if something at the house needs replacing, coffee and ice cream here and there with my sister, etc.
    = about $115 a month.

When I was in DC, it was different. Actually had more things to pay and more responsibilities.
Money was NOT my friend during my last year of college. I arrived in DC August 2012 with $200 in my pocket. I consider myself VERY successful that when I returned home August 2013, I had $400 American in my purse, and money also left in my Canadian bank account. (Student loans delayed 3 months, work was slow paying me, ex committed fraud after the student loan went through, so I lost half the loan, etc etc).

Apt 1- During the school year:
-$450 for my part of rent, utilities, etc, etc.
    - $100 on food
    - $50 on transportation
    - $30 on the phone.
    - ~$30 on laundry
    - $40 for miscellaneous things
    = $700
(Some months, $630, when I really couldn't afford stuff, I did laundry by hand instead of using the machines).

    Apt 2- Through the summer
    - $150 for my part of the rent
    - $30 for my part of the utilities (not including the gas, a roommate paid my part of that, since I was cooking all the meals for both me AND him).
    - $200-250 on food: More fresh produce and healthy foods, instead of carb packed foods. More meat since I had freezer space, etc. More going out to eat with friends.
    - $30 on transportation... wasn't busy with school, so if I wasn't in a hurry, and knew where something was, I walked.
    - $30 on the phone.
    - ~$30 on laundry
    - $60 on miscellaneous things
    = ~530-580.
