The Heritage?..."The Heritage?" Why didnt you just cut out the middle-man and go to Fox News.

They're not compelling arguments because when you look at the heritage article, small business owners are not even close to being the top 1% income earners. And everyone is gonna pay higher taxes to pay for this war. Its not even worth debating. The bill's gotta be paid. Period. And like I said before, over the last 20 years, tax increases have had almost no impact on the creation of jobs.

And the other article said an increase in social security tax, not personal income tax. Personal income tax will never go back that high. The "modern" ceiling is 40% and I dont think it will ever go higher than that in my lifetime...unless we're invaded by aliens and have to start raising money to build a squardon of millenium falcons.

But if Reagan was in office, who knows (lol)...he was always big on outer space...or maybe he was from outer space...

I would agree that "we the people" need to hold our government representatives accountable to the will of the people. However, bigger government (using all of our tax dollars) is NOT the answer to all social ills. So much of the best social progress has come from private enterprise, whether it be education, science, medicine, wealth creation, ect. When it comes to social programs government for the most part has to be concerned with what is "fair", not what is most "efficient" and "effective".

I read what he said and the guy's insane and his math is off. Why...because 90-95% of your wealthiest people dont pay anything close to the 35% ceiling on income tax. (If they are, they're either being ripped off by their account or just plain dumb.) Hell, most of them, even at today's lower rate are hiding their money over seas.

But dont worry, hiding money in off shore accounts is coming to an end very quickly. As we speak the US is turning up the heat on the Swiss. (UBS president is being arraigned this week in FL for assisting in tax evasion.)

There is a VERY fine line between "tax evasion" and "aggressive accounting". A line that is constantly changing based on new laws and vary widely state by state. Bottom line, the wealthy will always find a way to preserve their wealth legally and illegally, no matter what laws are changed. Not to mention that just because the wealthy (the majority of whom are business owners) dont want higher personal income taxes does NOT mean they are not paying their fair share, when you add up all of the payroll, medicare/medicaid, ssi, alternative minimum, capital gains, ect. taxes that would not exist if it were not for them taking the huge RISK of starting a business in the first place.

Here is what I would call a pretty fair analysis that looks at both plans objectively.

Im not making your point for you. Bush makes my point for me. Even with taxes as low as they have been since the Regan Admin., people are still hiding income overseas. I dont want to characterize them as greedy, and I have no problem with anyone paying as few taxes as the tax code allows...but, hell...pay your taxes. And to paint taxes that are being collected as being wasted on the poor is sooo convervative of you.

Not to mention this picture of every wealthy person out there as being eutrepreneurs. Give me a break.

Tell me, what job...any job...that "W" had before he f*cked up the country? Running a baseball team his daddy bought him doesnt count.

What kind of party elects a man who's never had a real job in his life. (And liberals didnt vote for him...they're smarter than that.)

(When I play the Bush card, its game, set, match!)

Ok, this has gone on far enough. I guess your tired of typing in red because to bring up the Arbusto scandal (the one where "W" was involved in insider trading, not to mention the fact that he ran two companies in the ground) and use that as experience is a sign of mental fatigue.

And this talk about the private sector creating social change...lets see...corporate theft and fraud (Enron, Tyco, Citigroup, etc.), environmental dumping, weighing bodily injury of customers vs. the cost of litigation (Ford and Suzuki) and the cherry on top, racial and sexual discrimination (no examples needed)...all things that actually do hurt people...yeah the private sector really does care about the people.

LOL, Jelly, if you read my post again, I too stated that his past business dealings were shady, you asked if he had "any" work experience before owning the Rangers, I was merely pointing out that he did.

As to your second point, I certainly never said the private sector was perfect, and one could easily point out all of the fraud and the multitude of malfeasance that the government gets up to with OUR tax dollars. I simply said that in my experience, the best social programs that bring the most effective solutions to the problems of the poor come from private individuals and private funding, I.E. education programs, job training, financial planning, all of these are programs that I have personally sought and secured funding from private souces during my time on my local Urban League board, and these private programs were by FAR more effective in meeting their goals, than any government program that I came accross in my almost 9 years of service. Perhaps this is just my experience, but I don't think so, as I liased with many other Urban League personnel in other cities to share ideas, and saw the same scenario play out time and time again.
