Those are only rare examples of people who are booked for a certain character that people are used to like you said.
    Not the same thing.
Imagine someone telling a beautiful woman like Jessica Alba that she needs to gain 40 pounds to become an actress ....now that would be a good comparison.
    Won't happen.

its not a debate.....its a discussion. major difference.

    debate....goal is to win.

discussion .....goal is to exchange thoughts and understand.

this was not to be a debate and turn into an argument....

You know what you're right this is a discussion so why can't we discuss this peacefully. You think you know what's best for all these adults? Sounds incredibly arrogant of you.

There are more examples and these people are told to stay at an unhealthy weight or lose their jobs. And there are actors who go up and down in weight. St alone in Copland Matt Damon Courage Under Fire Christian Bale the Machinist. Tom Hanks Castaway. Charlize Theron ( perfect for your Alba comparison) etc.

Charlize Theron did it to play in ONE movie (and got an Oscar for it).
She could have gotten other jobs where she would have been hired for staying just the beauty she is.
All the actors you are mentioning were already famous and rich and could have easily said NO.
Nothing you said convinced me that it's not wrong to tell a healthy already slim woman that she needs to lose more weight.

I explained my point pretty well I think but I'm not expecting someone like you to understand it ;)

But it's ok to tell healthy men and women to gain weight?
And what does their wealth have to do with anything? Giselle Kate Upton and everyone like them are wealthy but still have to maintain standards to book jobs how is it any different? They could all say no just like actors.

    No, it's not ok.
But they had a CHOICE because they could have gotten other jobs in the business.
How hard is that to understand? smdh
There are movies that do not require any of that and the examples you mentioned don't even have to work anymore because they have more money that they could ever spend.
They probably WANTED to do what they did and were NOT FORCED to do so.
How does that compare to a teenage girl who just dropped out of school and wants to become a model?

First off no one is forcing them to model it's not human trafficking and per your argument they could just as easily gain some weight and become plus size models too or fitness models or hand models. They have options too no?

Dropping weight once for one role isn't going up and down in weight.
When DeNiro gained 30-40# to play Jake LaMatta in Raging Bull, it was a one time thing he WANTED to do for authenticity of the character.

Telling a model they need to be 20# underweight year round and their modeling agencies don't give a crap how they do it is a much more abusive situation.

You'd be surprised what kinds of girls are told they're too fat to model.

Ananda Marchildon recently won a lawsuit against Elite modeling for the claim she was too fat because her hips were one INCH over their limit.
    36 inches versus 35. And she's 5'11.:smt101
    [IMG]

Kendall Jenner at this bodyweight was told she needs to lose 17#(!!) to runway model.

Filippa Hamilton at 5'10/120# was fired by Ralph Lauren for being too fat.

There are endless stories like these.

High end modeling has a bizarre fetish with models being extremely underweight.

5'5-5'6 and 120-125# is a very normal size for a woman and tending towards very fit.

Any profession that PREFERS women be over 5'10 and less than 120# is perverse.

In the real world, 5'6, 120# looks like this.

For the world of modeling to call her 'fat' is insanity.

But to Unique point no one is forcing them do it right?
Why don't they gain 20 lbs instead and become plus size models?
Actors constantly yo to diet for roles because if they don't they lose opportunities. It's not like most of them can turn down whatever rIles they want it's only a select few who can.

Your posting misleading information to support your argument which is dishonest The agency didn't want to pay anada her winnings point blank period, they tried to use her hips as a disqualification in attaining that money.

In an unprecedented court case, the Dutch fashion model Ananda Marchildon, 25, went up against Elite, the most powerful agency in the business, and came out victorious. Marchildon had been promised €75,000 (about $100,000) when she won the Holland’s Next Top Model television competition in 2008. But Elite subsequently dismissed her, saying her hips were too big by two centimeters (3/4 of an inch). The court in the Netherlands ruled today that Elite would have to pay her the remaining €65,000.

One of the main points of contention in the case was Elite’s claim not to have taken over Modelmasters the Agency (MTA), which made its promise to Marchildon in the first place. Even though MTA in effect ceased to exist and Elite picked up its models, Elite said it was not responsible to fulfill MTA’s obligations. The judge disagreed, ruling that “Marchildon could in good faith count on the fact that the contract between Marchildon and MTA was valid for Elite as well.”

When Elite sent Marchildon packing, it claimed that her hips, measuring 92 centimeters (36¼ inches) were just too broad for her to get work. Marchildon starved herself and exercised relentlessly to try to lose the required two centimeters, but to no avail. A spokesman from Elite Models allegedly said that because of her “fat ass,” she was unfit for modeling.

The Amsterdam court ruled that when the contract was signed Marchildon had a hip size of 92 cm, and “therefore Elite could not demand Marchildon reach a hip size of 90 cm.”
