It's not surprising. Maher works on HBO, so he can go 100% with his words. But since he's on a family-oriented program, he has to hold himself hard. I think we'll be seeing some New Rules with Hasselback soon.

I agree on his statement about women

Never apologize for saying or writing anything interpreted as offensive, just deal with the onslaught.

Elizabeth embodies what I hate in women. Glad Bill kept his cool, all that hostility with that fake patting on the back trying to play it off like no harm done would of took me over the edge.

what about her you hate ? she just wanted to get on his ass about being the butt of a joke ....right or wrong.

I *can* see her reason behind it since the joke could be taken as something downright offensive. But there have been worse jokes about people like Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and even Jerry Falwell that eclipse what Maher used about Hasselback.

I think so too. Why did she do it on the show....of course to embarrass him. She could have easily handled it privately too, more professional. Not a fan of Hasselback btw.

    She obviously can't handle show-business.

Bill is an unadulterated creep. He calls that comedy? Lara was mobbed by 200 men and then dragged off and brutally raped. To then refer to her as "hotness" knowing she was gang-raped, then to imply Mubarack 'released her" and then to finally suggest Elizabeth take her place (to endure the same, obviously), is putridly UNfunny and indicative of Mayer's manure mentality. There's absolutely nothing comedic about rape.

well if he can do it on air then he should be able to take it on air.

Surely you jest if this bothered all the other women on there too, ya know. There are varying degrees of comedy. And sadly rape could be incorporated into comedy since it's part of that brand of "dark comedy."

She's a public figure that's part of the deal.

I never said it was okay. Me personally, I would never joke about rape. But as a pseudo-celebrity, Hasselback should be prepared for any criticisms of her character and personality. Doesn't mean she has to like it. But it does show that she can't take it.

it also shows that bill cant take it when he is brought to task about it. as far as being a celeb...thats up for to debate.

why should she take it ? explain ?

if rush made racist jokes should you or blacks take it ? when andrew dice clay made racist jokes should we had taken it ?

just because you are a celeb doesnt mean you should be treated anything but like a human.

thats like saying if you give an opinion and someone disagree then they should have the right to call you a nigger

You're comparing apples to oranges. Bill Maher is a comedian and his style of comedy incorporates politically incorrect material. After all, prior to his HBO success, he was the host of Politically Incorrect on ABC. Also, as a comic, expect people to be poked fun of.

Rush isn't a comedian. He's radio political pundit, so the reaction to his comments on race, gender, and whatever would be taken more seriously. He's a notorious figure that caters to conservatives and racist audiences. That's how it works. We can laugh with people like Chris Rock when he's talking about Sarah Palin calling her, "McCain's Nurse" and yet people don't find it sexist. That's because he's a comedian.
