I had read Tom Clancy's books. My first was Patriot Games. It scared me silly. I read it after I saw the film and thought the book was scarier than the movie(Clancy walked out of the theater before Patriot Games ended). The book had details that should've been in the film. Patriot Games' story came before The Hunt For Red October. The Hunt For Red October was the same way. But, hey. This is Hollywood. I had read half of Clear And Present Danger. The rest I listen on an audio book. Other audiobooks I had listened to was The Cardinal Of The Kremlin and The Sum Of All Fears. Of course, other than CIA analyst(now POTUS)Jack Ryan, there was CIA field operative John Clark. In Clancy's stories, Mr. Clark(his real name was John Kelly, a former Navy Seal) was the deadliest field operative in the CIA and he still makes the Old Guard in the CIA and the U.S. Government nervous. Clancy's works were technical. His biggest hobby was war gaming. From this hobby, he learned the functions of military machines, ranks and weapons. He even through in history. A mutiny aboard a Russian missile cruiser after viewing the silent film Battleship Potemkin, inspired Clancy, then working as an insurance agent, to write The Hunt For Red October. His books were(and still are) required reading at all U.S. military academies. He was a great story teller. Thank you, Tom. May He Rest In Peace.

I loved the John Clark (Kelly) character, and Domingo Chavez and the adventures of Rainbow 6. I might have to go back and do a Clancy re-read marathon....

I remember Domingo "Ding" Chavez. He was recruited by Mr. Clark in Clear And Present Danger when Chavez was an Army Ranger sharpshooter. He married Clark's daughter. He left the Army and went into the Marines. He and Jack's friend Robbie Jackson, his wife Caroline, Admiral James Greer, Mary Pat Foley and others. When I first read Patriot Games, I didn't like Ryan because he was too perfect. But he got to me. It won't be the same. Well, there is Larry Bond, Patrick Robinson, Dale Brown and others.

Ghost Recon is the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the name Tom Clancy. It was one of my favorite games at one point.
