To be frank, I've always felt that there was a hint of jingoism and cultural narcissism for some choosing to join the military, even here in the United States. Hell, especially here in the United States. I have a brother who has been in the United States Air Force for 20 years and has served in Arab countries like Kuwait and Saudi Arabia; he also served in the Gulf War and the Iraq War. What I gathered from him is that alot of young soldiers really love the thrill of getting a gun and going to "kill some dirty Muslims" and whatnot. There is just this really Eurocentric strain of Occidentalism running through the veins of many Americans anyway, so why would soldiers - who are part of this society - be any different?
