Australian skilled immigration laws should be relaxed and any plans to cut migrant levels will threaten economic growth, says Coca-Cola Amatil chief Terry Davis.

Mr. Davis was speaking at the Australian Institute of Company Directors function in Melbourne when he said that reducing the Australian skilled visa levels would be "a real mistake".

"That's what makes this country as great as it is - we've got to find ways to embrace and engage, because if we don't we'll end up with the ethnic issues that some other countries have faced, and I see that as very sad," he said.

Both major political parties have proposed Australian Visa cuts.

Mr. Davis said immigration was good for Australia because of population and economic growth as well as social enrichment.

"Going back 50 years ago, what is it that the Greeks and Italians have added to the fabric of Australian society? An enormous benefit and you'd hate to lose it, or to lose that view that we're an open and embracing culture. All countries need population growth."

He also called for a relaxation in Australian skilled migration laws to address skill shortages and a more flexible visa program.

Bro I hate to be the giver of bad news, but the race pimps will tell you that "race" will trump all clear thinking on immigration. It will come down to race and the numbers. Already the western countries like France and yes the the United States fear being overrun by third world non-whites. No problemo on european immigrants as long as you do not have too many of the "other" or the "them" coming in.

Australian Businesses Warn of Skills Shortages

A recent business survey by the Australian Industry Group/Deloitte, warn that businesses are expecting a serious skills shortage in Australia that could affect the economy. The survey questioned more than 400 chief executives of major businesses up and down Australia and found that 34.7% of them believed that skills shortages would affect their businesses this year and 47.5% believed that by 2015 more businesses would be affected.

The chief executive of the Australian Industry Group, Heather Ridout, warned that skills shortages only looked likely to increase which would have an adverse effect on the Australian economy. Of the businesses most likely to be affected are those within manufacturing, construction and engineering - central to the Australian economy and also businesses with a high turnover of migrant employees.

However with recent changes to the Australian immigration policy and harsh words from Australia's new Prime Minister, skilled migrants are finding it more of a struggle to negotiate their way through the confusing DIAC legislation on general skilled migration policy. The regional manager of Deloitte Consulting Asia Pacific agreed with Ms. Ridout and said that Australia could lose out because of the lack of skilled workers: "CEOs committed to driving growth need to win the race for talent or risk being overtaken by the competition."

The occupations with the worst skilled labor shortfalls were metal fitters and machinists that have 59.6% of vacancies that are unfilled, then engineering professionals (57.1%), metal casting, forging and finishing tradesmen (36.7%), welders (32.9%) and business administration managers (36.7%).

No one here will defend Bush and our country voting him in. Well except Tuckereed, he's pretty conservative. Oh and yea Bush cheated lol.

This does make one think about people as individuals though. In 2002, Jean-Marie Le Pen made it to the Run-off Election. He's a Far Right-Nationalist politician. He came in second in the first round. It it safe to say that people of France are Racist in some way?

I didnt mean it in a bad way. Basically before I came on this site I thought Australian people were really nice and liberal. There are tons of them in London, and Aussie girls are really easy to get along with. When I came on this site People started posting stuff about Australia's immigration policies, and I was suprised, even though I had heard of the White Australia policy. I thought the white Australia policy was a thing of the past..But I am beginning to doubt myself now.

And my view is probably skewed because I tend to only see Aussie women in clubs..Maybe if met some of the men I probably wouldnt think that Australians are that liberal..I dont know.

    Okay, calm down..
Of course the will never be a publicly-admited whites only policy. The Australian government would be cruxified if it ever did that again. But sly/clever government policies could always ensure that the is a latent whites only policy, that you would never know about. After all Australia is 92% white according to Denbenz.

Like I said, immigrate to Australia by all means! Let's get that 92% on the decline. We'll make you feel welcome :D
