Damn....I didn't think it would be that long. I just assumed since the distance is significantly less from the World Map then the time would be less too. Maybe it's not economically feasible to have direct fights from Kenya to Australia, not too many people flying in both direction.

New Zealand is also another place I would really like to visit. I guess if in Australia it would be economical to go to New Zealand as well. How long is the flight from the closest point of Australia to New Zealand. I would think it would be at least 6 hours.

No, it's only 3hrs or maybe 4hrs. It's not long. It takes longer to fly to Western Australia from the east coast (of Australia) than it does from the east coast to New Zealand.

I think the whole no direct flight from nairobi has more to do with refueling the plane. But yes, they probably wouldn't get enough passengers on a daily basis to Kenya from Australia.

Oz is a wonderful country and yes it is a bit isolated. Of all the countries in Asia I would visit Oz than China,Indonesia,or the Phillipines.

Oz is not in Asia. I think the continent where Australia, New zealand and maybe a few other countries is called Oceania.

    We're in "Australasia".

What is Oceania? Is Australia or Australasia part of it? Some of the explanations on the web don't make any sense.

I came up with the name Oceania from the soccer World cup qualifying format. You have the following groups; Africa, Asia (includes teams from Middle East, India, Pakistan and other countries in the area), North America (also includes teams from Central America & Caribbean), South America and Oceania (Includes New Zealand, American Samoa, Tahiti, Vanuatu, Cook Island, Tonga and a few more countries).

After looking through the list of countries I now see that while the groups are based on continents they do have some variations. Australia actually plays in the Asian qualifying group for football reasons, while Israel plays in the European group for political reasons (don't want them playing in Iran and vice versa).

@ Alectrona and Sin Mari - After a few more clicks I think I was somehow right initially, at least according to wiki.
