Can anyone tell me why many of our young athletic stars fail so badly with their judgement......Just look at how this brother threw away his promising future.........

About 12 hours after running back ***********005790]Isaiah Crowell ***********005790]was arrested on three weapons charges, coach Mark Richt announced the former No. 1 recruit in the country had been dismissed from the team.
"We have a dedicated and committed group of men who are working hard to prepare for the coming season," said Richt in a statement. "Our total focus will be directed toward the team and this effort."
Although the statement was brief, ***********005790]it didn't seem to leave room for Crowell to return.
According to the Athens Clarke County booking report, Crowell was arrested by Athens police at 3:37 a.m., at which time he was booked into the Athens Clarke County jail. The county's online jail booking report states Crowell bonded out at 12:44 p.m.
A police spokesman told UGASports that Crowell's arrest came following an early-morning stop at a police checkpoint on East Campus Road and Green Street on the Georgia campus. Four other individuals were in the car, but they were not arrested.
According to the spokesman, Crowell's car was stopped at 2:20 when an officer reported smelling the odor of marijuana. Crowell's car was searched, no marijuana was found but police did locate a 9-mm Luger handgun with the altered serial number. The gun was found under the driver's seat.
Two of the charges were felonies and the other was a misdemeanor and Crowell was originally booked on a $7,500 bond, which was raised to $9,500.
However, being dismissed from the Georgia football team might be the least of Crowell's problems. ***********005790]According to ESPN's Mark Schlabach, Crowell could face severe charges for his gun possession.
"Crowell facing 2-5 yrs on gun in school zone charge & 1-5 yrs on altered serial numbers, according to Georgia sentencing guidelines"
Because of potential jail time, it's hard to speculate where Crowell might try to restart his career. He rushed for 850 yards and five touchdowns in an injury-riddled first season with the Bulldogs.
But he also had trouble following the rules. He was suspended for the Vanderbilt game on Oct. 15 for unknown disciplinary reasons and again for the Nov. 5 game against New Mexico State for failing a drug test.
As of right now, this is an unfortunate end to what could have been a promising career

Simple because nobody teaches them right from wrong, especially when they show any athletic promise. Most of these athletes are coddled by the people in their lives and as they get older it gets worse. The parents dont discipline them as sternly as they should, and coaches if the player is a star will cover up any problem (unless it is a major offense) before they punish the player and this just manifests itself into a young man thinking he is untouchable.

I dont want to hear all this he is a young and did a stupid thing, because we are all young at sometime and most of us know when we do something stupid there are serious consequences. Somewhere along the way this guy never learned that.

Without knowing the specifics of this guy's upbringing, I know that many of these brothers come from single mother households and the only other male influence are guys their same age. Not good. These brothers model their lives on males who have far less potential than they do.

Co-sign, plus most come from lower income households which often times has an adverse affect on the level/quality of education they receive.

This is a very personal issue for me because once a young man/boy shows signs of great athletic talent (college scouts are already aware of the AAU games of my son, who is entering the 6th grade for f*$%'s sake!) they are coddled and given passes for bad behavior, basically treated as though they are special when what they truly and desperately need is a male role model to keep them in-line, focused on positive goals, humble, and making good decisions.

My son was raised in a single-mother household from the age of 8. No male role models in his life except a grandfather who he saw from time to time. He is a responsible, hard-working student finishing college. He was able to get alot of financial aid because eligibility was based on my income.

Imo, it comes back to what the child is taught, not necessarily the environment he/she is raised in. Kids come out of less-than-ideal environments all the time and become successful responsible adults with the right teaching at home. And then you also have kids who come from the most privileged households with parents who are too busy to invest in their kids....and grow up to be train wrecks.

I'm not quite connecting your correlation that low income households equates to adverse effects of the quality level of education.

Where from is this lower-level education acquired?

In many communities, almost everything about the education system from the schools themselves, to the facilities, to the teacher's salaries are paid for at least in part by property taxes in those areas. The lower the taxes paid the less resources for the schools.

can't tell people what they should already know

there's a reason why 'busing' was pushed in the old days, so that black students in poor areas could go to better funded white ones :smt069
