Again I am totally amazed at how people can miss the whole point or just ignore it all together. I'm with Sin 100 percent on this one. The message was brilliant because it shows that evil isn't born its made. True evil is a consistent life choice but at the root of all human existence there's innocence. Talk about a picture saying a thousand words. The child wasn't exploited anymore than a child whose parents put them as babies without their knowledge. I'm sure there's no problem there. Its just the image of Hitler stirs so many emotions I get the annoyance but it shouldn't take away the great message here. If she didn't use her child how could she have made her point? People are way too easily offended, there was nothing malicious about the picture.
Lol Andrae, maybe I am too sensitive, possible.. But I am convinced of that if you want to bring a message around, use yourself or some one who is able to make his decision.. In that kind, she can wear the clothes by herself and title the picture however she wants..
Really? Ever get mad when a kid is on a tv show or in a movie? I bet not because art its entertainment.
Yeap- I wasn´t considering till now, that there is a combination..I hate it to see little girls in Little Miss Challenges, or as actors, or in sport or music..Grown-ups, parents and producers take the advantage out of them, it´s a kind of business I do not appreciate...correct! Many times we have reports on TV about that ambitious parents, you see the kids crying backstage, because it´s simply too much for them and the producers- for sure they take the chance..
But when you see movies like Damian or the Shining we can conceptually see it as entertainment. Parents make decisions for kids all the time that they wouldn't have chosen for themselves as kids but as I've been told before in another thread. The woman uses her body to bring the baby into the world so everything should ultimately be the woman's decision.
I don´t know, how it is handled in US, acting in my countries is restricted for children..as much as I remember to three hours a week..so, it is acceptable. But in general, I have the feeling that we go into the wrong direction with our kids and teenagers. In Europe we start to fight against it. The show with Heidi Klum "Germanys next Top Model" i.e. had a lot of bad critics. Teenagers started to talk about their weight and operations.. We, the grown-ups may not allow this trend. In some european countries it´s not allowed anymore to book models under BMI 18, a new discussion started that pictures in the magazines have to be signed that they are processed by photoshop and that they are far away from reality. I haven´t read your post you mentioned. It´s very tolerant, but I would prefer to make decisions with the father together. I want to hear the male perspective, too.
Wow, I totally didn't see anyone make that argument. I think they made the argument that the woman uses her body to bring the baby into the world so everything for 9 months should be the woman's decision, and everything after should be split 50/50. As it is. Regarding this, I have to say, they cast Corey Feldman in werewolf movies as a little child, and he grew up to be Corey Feldman, so be careful. I see the art in this, but I think I'd be uncomfortable using my own kid this way.
Chi we obviously have to agree to disagree because you're firm on your position and I stand firm on mine. Wow I can really see how wars start now
Hmm...interesting posts. I like them. I'm going to agree with Sin about it being art and being very thought-provoking. I do think that most people are born innocent and somewhere along the way a small percentage turn evil and there are degrees of evil. However, I'm not so sure that everyone is born innocent. But that's just me. There is some serious evil this world has seen, and I have to think that some of it had to have been innate.
I agree with Nina Maria Kleivan's message. as for her choice to use her baby, as an artistic tool to portray the evil's of mankind by dressing her up as Hitler and Mussolini... I understand why she felt having a real baby would make an impact on those who experience her piece. I'm not offended by it because I don't see her intent as meaning to offend and I can afford not to be offended. But I can also see why people would be offended and I think its fine to be offended by it. Art can be offensive and if a particular piece disturbes someone, I think its fine to think its done in poor taste. Art is about message and method and you can approve of one and not the other.
Hear, hear!! However...you, I, or anyone else in the world take this display, the artiste in question *did* achieve ONE paramount personal goal... She was lookin' for attention....and she *got* it! 'Nuff Said!! OpinionsCartoonStudios@Yahoo.Co.UK
Someone here posted that art has to be provoking otherwise nobody takes attention- as we can see- it´s true..but we are not discussing about her "message", we are talking about about her and her decision to use an innocent child.
