anastacia, if that last part is true, why is it that the whole country doesnt stand up against the racists and protest the bigotry and violence?

I wonder why russian women are a big part of the mail order bride business to the west, however, they are only interested in marrying White Men? Anastacia, if russians and russian women are not racist, like the extremists, then why do the women looking for Western marriage only intersted in White men and not Black men or hispanic men?

    1) my question is, if russia cannot even assimilate its own educated, ambitious minorities born there, how much less some black or brown student from another third world country?

    2) you're really going to compare china's current impact on overall world development and trade to russia's?. is there any incentive for foreinger to learn russian for trade and commerce purposes when russia's main exports are AK-47's, automatic weapons, and nuclear weapons to third world countries?

and let us not forget the rampant corruption, bribery, extortion and outright savagery that has long been observed to exist among russia's powerful and elite, creating an extremely hostile and risky environment for legitimate businesses and individuals of foreign country to invest in.

    3) I AGREE. the extreme conditions in your country make it nearly impossible for it to benefit from pretentious displays of "open-mindedness" and "tolerance". unlike first world countries, where relative opulence exists for the majority, there's just no incentive for the millions of filth poor russians to condemn the barbaric actions of their fewer savage brethren, especially when many of them can actually identify to some extent with the emotional appeals of savage racists.

Tuck, the point u are probably not aware is that 4 a long long time we lived in a closed soviet society under an "iron curtain", with no free travelling and lots of other limitations. There was no free market where u could buy some goods other than produced by state. As for mentality that is so closed it is due to the fact there were no many foreigners coming to Soviet Union and logically that women here are not used to other races. Even now (15 years after collapse of Soviet Union) i just see lots of ppl that are so narrow-minded and feel uncomfortable seeing interracial dating or just a black person walking on the street. Sometimes me after my experience of studying abroad in a multicultural environment (apart of me and another girl from Peru all the ppl in our class were black and asian) i do feel like a stranger here trying to dispute with ppl and prove them the evident things. Finally i made a conclusion that they (majority) cant be blamed for not having chance to live in a open-minded democratic society. So russian women' dreaming abt western white men based first of all on stereotyping abt cool western man (esp american) who could come here and get this woman out of her messy shitty life to that american dream. The fact that this man should be white (american) is due to the ppl's mentality that is just not familiar with black culture and just being black.

Malachi, the young ambitious minorities with high education do compete here here on an equal base with the others, may be even with more passion. The difference from the soviet times when on ur graduation u were given different offers by ur institute's employment office is that now it's just u and ur luck that can help you to get a first job when u feel so vulnerable due to the lack of experience. The government didnt help me as well as it did nothing for the georgian, kazakh's or any other graduate coz we all have equal competition here. Market is infested with young ambitious graduates of law faculties ready kill each other to get a good position.

    2) you're really going to compare china's current impact on overall world development and trade to russia's?. is there any incentive for foreinger to learn russian for trade and commerce purposes when russia's main exports are AK-47's, automatic weapons, and nuclear weapons to third world countries?

That's quite evident that investor and foreign businesses are interested in opening their offices in Russia where there's a huge raw market and lowest employment expenses.

and let us not forget the rampant corruption, bribery, extortion and outright savagery that has long been observed to exist among russia's powerful and elite, creating an extremely hostile and risky environment for legitimate businesses and individuals of foreign country to invest in.

The corruption still exists being strictly prosecuted officially, though it's fewer than at Eltsin's presidency

    Sorry to admith the truth.

All in all, it's too much a hassle for the Africans to go there, no matter what changes occur, as we can already see.

No, the education is not for free either in Russia or Ukraine for foreigners, and even a bit more expencive than in African countries where they come from. I can tell for sure, I've talked about it with some of Moscow black students. Study in Moscow university costs about 1600$ per year. That is more expencive, than, for example, in Nigeria.

So, I wondered, also what made them come to this country... but couldn't get any reasonble reply. :)

Dunno what about other russian cities, but in Moscow it's really quite dangerous, they try not to go out late at night, or at least not alone.
If I were them I'd never come to the place where people feel themselves so uncomfortable and unwelcomed...
    Strange they are still there.

anastasia, put simply, your country's government is the problem, and not the foreigners. the fact is, your government is failing to provide adequate living conditions and employment to its millions of starving and destitute natives, while allowing thousands of foreigners relatively easy entrance into universities, and to occupy spaces that russians believe that the foreingers have no right to (but at the same time, if those spaces are occupied by russians, there will be even more unemployed and overqualified native professionals, whereas the foreigners are expected to leave upon graduation) these foreigners (even the third world foreigners, through their government) also bring potential money and trade and investment opportunities, but if then, why is their presence laregly despised?...

that's why i said earlier let russia "starve itself" with their pride, and not allow foreigners to study there until the government either first creates jobs for the native russians or takes more aggressive means to curb the violent, savage attacks being committed against foreigners.

I understand what you are saying Anastacia, but the fact that you are in a class, NOT with Cats and Dogs but HUMAN BEINGS, what is the issues that make you a stranger?

We all have fingers, toes, eyes, ears, bodies alike, with color differences--so what is so strange/ Have you or the russians never seen the color brown or black? NO, they have had a national poet, Pushkin, so they have seen or know of some blacks and asians from the eastern part of russia--mongolia. you know of arabs from the south that you fought in Afghanistan.

Its not that easy to say it was strange for the russian people, as they see other people, not another species of animal.

i remember the story of an african in moscow who was dating a russian, and how even his own girlfriend made fun of him and didn't care that skinheads were targeting and beating him up on his way to and from class..

in short, i'd be leary of any russian, ukranian, or eastern european expressing interest in "dating" black men.
