June 12 marks the 50th anniversary of Loving v. Virginia, the landmark Supreme Court decision that invalidated state laws that restricted interracial marriage. While interracial weddings have been on the rise, only 10 percent of married people had a spouse of a different race or ethnicity. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/05/30/opinion/interracial-marriage-loving-virginia.html I'm excited about seeing more data and beautiful stories about interracial due to the 50th anniversary.
Media will find some way to spin this into being about black women and white men marriages to keep the justification and stereotypes that hypocritical black women have over black men and white women marriages. But 50 years! Wow! Think of all the secret IR relationships that went on before that ruling. You think Trump will comment on this tomorrow. lol. Obama will probably say something before Trump does.
No question a lot of IR before 1967 especially in the places where it was ilegal and punished. Oh yes in the Aparthied Era in South Africa very risky too.
I remember when I was little my Uncle talked about sneaking off to one of those interracial night clubs with his friends when they were young. They said some of those white women used to be scared and had to be loosened up.
