Are you a frequent international traveler?

For the frequent international travelers, check out the site www.globalentry.gov.

This allows US citizens to use their passports at a kiosk when going through customs and immigrations to completely bypass the long lines when re-entering the US.

There are two kiosks at LAX. I think they have them at SFO as well.

Yeah, we have these in Australia too. I use them myself, it's much better. Except that you still have to wait for about 10yrs for your damn luggage to arrive on the belt in baggage claim. :smt005

Very cool. I'll be on the lookout for that when I return to Europe.

lol Yeah, if it arrives at all.

I went to download the PDF but saw your post and cancelled it. The time it takes you to wait in line at customs is time your luggage is getting off-loaded. Doesn't make sense to breeze through only to wait for luggage 30 min. or more.

Could be helpful if you have a connecting flight to catch.

But then again, you're right and you still have to go through customs. Hurry up and wait situation.

Exactly. You may as well wait in line. And if you have a connecting flight within the USA, remember, you still have to pick up your luggage and re-check it.

I suppose if you travelled light with just carry-on luggage the kiosk would be helpful.

Only on the West Coast, m8?

Barring anything unforseen, I don't think they'd be much use to Yours Truly, as *I* usually fly into The States from the East Side (i.e. JFK or EWR)

Yeah, I think that's one of the worst things about travelling, especially internationally. Last time I arrived back in Aust. everyone on my flight thought our luggage was gone. I swear it took over an hour to come out on the belt. And I got through passport control in less than 5 minutes because of those new computerised things this thread is talking about. It wasn't fun.

Although, the worst is when I'm waiting at Nairobi airport hoping like hell my luggage actually arrived with me. Now THAT is always an anxious wait. I always carry a change of clothes etc... in my carry on, just in case.

I'm not sure about JFK or EWR, but I think I saw them at PHL a couple of years ago when they were being set up. If they're not there already, they'll probably be at most of the major international gateways soon.

MY big problem, at this moment in time, is WILL the Icelandic volano situation mellow out enough for us to make it back home on 1 June?
