I am not a Saints fan .Although I pull for & at times 'sympathize' with some of the great players who have gotten stuck down here with them. The Saints had only one more playoff caliber team during Brooks tenure(can't remember season) & the guy played injured & struggled(but he didn't care?) He was too game to pull himself so that was a coaching error to allow him to play with a bad shoulder. The fans never forgave him nor Haslett for that. Honestly I am pretty indifferent about Brees. Only hope he succeeds as that will bode well for Horn/Deuce/Bush,etc... Again I'm not a Saints fan. I only know Brees has never won anything in this league & struggled & was nearly run from San Diego( Phillip Rivers was picked so high for a reason ) before he finally showed a little something the past two seasons. And he never even made the playoffs. I think the guy will have some success, but there isn't enough talent on this team for him to seriously compete. There are maybe a dozen(?) QB's or so I would have picked over Brooks. And I never ever compared him to Brady or Manning! I said compare his numbers to any QB in this league 'this side of them' meaning exclude those two guys along with a couple others guys like Kurt Warner. The guys performance stands up. Period. I never criticized Brees for his preseason performance with the Saints & am looking at his career(where another QB was drafted because of his disappointingly pathetic play excluding the past two seasons). Yet he is the Saints savior? I simply didn't like how the fans treated the first winners (Brooks & Mora) in the FORTY (40)YEAR history of the club. If Brooks never starts another game in this league it wouldn't matter to me. (Though I do wish him success in Oakland) Seriously, I'm only saying Saints fans should give the man more respect.
Speaking of people picking one point out of many someone has made. I thought the Chargers hadn't made the playoffs since 94/95, but I looked it up & you are right.(2004 SEASON .Although I did say he played well the past two seasons) Phillip Rivers was drafted for a reason! Brees was released for a reason. I did say Brees hasn't 'won' anything in this league & won't be winning anything any time soon in N.O. He shall learn like Brooks that this team has little talent across the board. You are welcome to go back & read the rest of the post.
exactly right, Bryant... Dear Kinfolk, I understand your point about Saints fan giving more respect to Brooks... But where were you January 8 2005??? bcoz Brees and the SDC beat the jets in the AFC wild card...A PLAYOFF GAME! Anyway, you guys (Bryant, Kinfolk...) know football, so we`ll have an interestin season here on WWBM!!!!
Please read previous post. Brees hasn't won anything. J you & Bryant are welcome to read the entire post. And Bryant what sustained excellence has Brees had? The guy had a QB drafted right under him. I can't remember but I am certain the Chargers haven't won a playoff game. OK I checked & they did lose to the Jets. Now read the remainder of the my previous post if you like .
That is true, they lost to the Jets...I misread the scores... BUt anyway, you stated that Brees NEVER even made the playoffs...which was incorrect and that`s what I wanted to emphasize...and HE HAS made the playoffs! Anyway, let`s cut this discussion...we aren`t going anywhere...let`s wait for the beginning of the regular season and have more...don`t u think????
I think I said that three posts or so ago wait until the Saints are losing again we can then post. Sorry to hear one of your "great"(?) players "hands of Stone' Stallworth(who has never learned his playbook)was traded for peanuts after years of trying to replace him on this roster. Two coaching staffs could be wrong however, it's happened before.
I think Stallworth will flourish in Philadelphia. The eagles use a weird version of the west coast offense (only run the ball about 30 percent of the time) so Stallworth will have plenty of opportunities to gain some RAC because of his speed. After all, look at what Santana Moss is doing in Washington, what Terry Glenn is doing in Dallas, and what Steve Smith is doing in Carolina. The little speeders are definitely cool again. For a while in the NFL, teams were only drafting WR's that were 6'2 and up, but the Giants took Sinorice Moss in the second round this year, even though he's about 5'8, so i can see that trends are shifting again. After those little guys catch some of those short passes, they put on the burners and don't stop until they're in the end zone. I mean, Stallworth may never be a pro bowl type of player, but i think he'll definitely have a good career playing with Donovann McNabb (who will be a first ballot hall of famer when he's done playing in my opinion).
Since a certain person here has placed a high standard of 'consistent excellence' upon new Raider's QB. I remebered something a friend & I did a couple seasons back. Looking at the 31 starting QB's from previous year & 'All things being equal' (ie awful talent in New Olreans ) which QB would I take over Brooks. Brady/Y Boller/N Manninng/Y Collins/N A smith/n AJ Feeley/NO! Big Ben/Y Mcnair/Y Green/Y? H back/y PJ Losman/N Palmer/Y l'wich/y? Brees/n bulger/y Pennington/Y? C.Frye/n Carr/N Plummer/N Warner/N Favre/NO! Simms/n Mcnabb/y Orton/n D'homme/y Bledsoe/n Culppeper/Y? Vick/Y? E Man/Y? Harrington/No brunell/n Though I was accused of being blinded by passion there are roughly ten Qb's I would pick unquestioned before Brooks. And another 6 with ?'s L'wich/e man/ I pick on 'potential' since they have done nothing. Vick is 'consistently excellent'? more like erractic /among five worst passers in league with the best running attack in league. Take him to sell tix & potential Culppepper fumbling bumbling king of Qb's with more turnovers than td's in most of his 5 seasons. although he inherited perhaps greatest single season offense in league history. (Cost me thirty bucks when he three for 78yds & three int's while he cried on sideline against Giants(41-0 nfc champ.) But he is fantasy QB king Those older guys Brunell/Bledsoe(see buffalo & how pathetic he was with subpar talent)Warner/Favre are nearing the end & will not win with bottom three talent like Saints. Now besides Brady,Manning,Favre(5yrs ago) warner for two or three seasons . Which Qb's are'consistently excellent? maybe consistently 'solid' 'reliable' & can win when surrounded by talent. In other words consistently excellent QB's don't grow on trees Bryant?
Stallworth will have a good career you say Bryant?Fast? That's not shocking news to me . He's had a 'good' career already. Last season he had 70 catches(his best) & nearly 1000 yds, But when you are an overpaid 13 overall pick a team is not looking for 'pretty good' career. When Willie Jackson is a better #2 reciever thenit's time to move on. If Drew Brees "the great' nor his coach is willing to stand up for Stinkworth that's not saying much for him. The knock on the guy are his hands ,which has been documented by the media at the enormous(league high) amount of dropped balls in New Orleans & stinkworth the worst offender. Stallworth Knocks: Questionable hands, since his career began 'cannot seem to absorb playbook' (a lost receiver will make a QB look indecisive sometimes) & early in career "injury prone'. At least this organization decided to cut there losses & have begun to address the true problems of this team like poor receivers, poor Lb's,O lineman & secondary. Mcnabb has been known to be inconsistent himself. (Which spurred the Limbaugh controversy) ,but the guy(Stallworth) is better than Todd Pinkston. P.S. No one has ever pointed out the 'consistent excellnce' of Drew brees? However he should succeed with his pop gun for an arm & dumping the ball off to Bush.
Kinfolk....i just don't get where you're coming from with all this :smt102 Are you that much a fan of Aaron Brooks that you have to defend him like this?? I never said that the guy couldn't play, i just said that his IQ sucks, and he makes reaallly dumb mistakes at the worst possible times. Now, i can say the same thing about a dozen other quarterbacks, but because we were all talking about the Saints, the conversation focused on Aaron Brooks by default. And his nonchalant attitude doesn't help matters either when it comes to me wanting him on my team. I would rather have a guy like Drew Brees on my team anyday (even despite his subpar arm strength)because it appears as though he actually cares about winning and losing, unlike Mr. Brooks .
You put Brooks up to the standard of 'consistent excellence' & my point is put 'all' QB's up to that standard. Hell I've only seen 4 or 5 Qb's in my lifetime that measure up to that. I simply wanted an answer to the ? How many 'consistently excellent' active Qb's you know of ?(Obviously very few since you have now backtracked & stated that you can say the same thing about another dozen other QB's ) What 'consistent excellence' Brees has sustained? 'Dumb mistakes at crucial times'? Of 'all' Qb's besides Tom Brady NO ONE(no active QB) in the league today has more 4th quarter comebacks than Brooks(NO ONE). Doesn't sound like a man who is totally lost in crucial times' to me. (Irrelevant ,but he also lead the greatest comeback in the history of Virginia football) So if you continue to allow the commentators at that four letter sport network & elsewhere to influence your opinion fine. I just love clubbing people over the head with facts & not deal with 'perception' & not how things 'appear'(as you say about the man) Hell Magic would smile ,but turn around & try to cut your heart with a spoon. Who cares if he smiles? Brooks would be a top tier QB ,I admit, if he would be more consistent, I know that. All I am trying to say is 'all things equal' the guy has been working with less than most Qb's(except Plummer Cardinal Years & Carr perhaps) & is not always to blame for inconsistent offensive play of his team. That's why Saints fans were especially frustrated with him because at times the guy really looked like 'John' Elway & occasionally more like Elton 'John'. I don't have to defend anyone Bryant. That's why they keep stats & wins & losses. Just don't like it when people prefer to deal in 'perception' instead of facts. Again I would dearly like to see him succeed ,but if he doesn't it would be fine with me.
Okay, since you want to make an argument out of nothing, let me just say that when i mentioned the consistent excellence part, i was asking a QUESTION. I didn't say that EVERY quarterback is consistently excellent, i was simply asking you which one you preferred....a consistently excellent quarterback who leads his team to wins, or one who puts up gaudy numbers and his team loses critical games?? If Brooks was sooo great, why did they release him and bring in somebody else?? And i've watched enough football to know that i don't let anyone or anything influence my thoughts on a certain player. That's for me, and for me only to decide. When i watched those Saints games, i know what I saw, and i wasn't impressed. It doesn't take any commentator to convince me of that.
STEELER FOOTBALL IS COMIN BABY! You have to admit when it comes to runnin the ball the steelers will beat you 99% of the time. Now that willie parker seems to be getting better and it looks like verron haynes is takin duce's spot not to mention big ben has a few rushing TDs under his belt. And the blitzburgh D will be too much to handle.
OMG....  Welcome to the discussion kennyG, it should be a fun season! [/quote] Why was Brooks released? I answered most of that in the first post. The man was released becuase of fan /media pressure,QB wanted out, QB publicly cursed out the coach,GM, & Owner. That normally means the end of your welcome in a town. See how easy it is to answer someone's question? I don't avoid them like you. I thought I had someone to talk a little football about.
Dude, you can't be serious with this?? I'm avoiding questions?? What are you talking about?? What was your question? Is your question which quarterback is consistently better than Brooks stat wise?? If so, why does it matter? I DO NOT care about STATISTICS. Do you understand what i'm saying kinfolk?? Why is this so hard for you. For the last time... Brooks CAN put up numbers, but his team ALWAYS underachieves. Maybe that's why they released him, instead of some conspiracy with the fans and the media. It sounds like you're a complete homer kinfolk. I really don't care about Brooks or the Saints, but you're trying to make something out of nothing, and it's very tiresome.
Could have sworn I said he basically stated he wanted out, cursed coach ,owner & gm publicly, was a hot & cold player. But you only bring up fans/media angle. It doesn't matter to me in the long run either I'm not getting paid. I just absolutely love a good knockdown sports argument. But if u wanna act like a lil' beyotch . Why even respond? I've made similiar arguments for Manning,DREW BREES, & dozens of other players when people dis them based on misinformation. To come grandstand & claim you are growing tired is fucking gay. Be a man like Jrem & just walked away.
What can you say when a team has just won the Super Bowl? Like Pedro just 'tip your hats & call them your Daddy'. 8) Would like to see aging Ravens(Mcnair get one more shot)) or Indy(so Manning can shut up critics) knock you guys off though. That is if you all can survive your division?(CINCY)
Look kinfolk, i don't know who you are, or what you're trying to get at, but i do not want to argue with you. I don't mind talking football and arguing with my best friend about it, but the last thing i want to do is argue with some complete stranger over the internet. I want to talk football and that's it. I DO NOT want to argue. And i see that you're resorting to name calling as well. You're the only one making a big deal out of this, so just let it go....it's over. Just accept my point of view for what it is, and i'll accept yours the same. And whose grandstanding?? Dude, you're making yourself look foolish! I'm starting to get the feeling that you get some kind of rush by trying to intimidate people. Be a man and just walk away?? You're right...i will walk away, because this conversation is BORING, and it's OVER, and it's no longer worth discussing.
