Are you fucking serious, dude? I am so shocked and disgusted at your last paragraph in particular, I had to walk away for a minute. How about this... now, sit down, it's a radical idea, and it might be a lot for you to handle. Mind your business, live your life, and forget what the fuck the person down street calls themselves, because it doesn't change the color of the sky at your house.
I'm curious why do you still fat girl crusade when you've lost the weight? You don't seem to chime in on other discriminatory threads (at least not to my knowledge) so why this? Granted this kid is crude as hell but he's not the first poster to say some insensitive shit.
I do chime in when I see them. I've always been an advocate for all people. Just point me in the right direction! It was never about me, TDK. It was about people being treated like people, no matter what size they might have been. Big or small, feelings are feelings, and there's no reason to insult, ridicule, and belittle someone because of the way they look. Ever. I would think this community could understand that.
You think being black prevents people from being assholes? Hi my name is TDK have we met lol I've seen you take a different approach on other topics but I think its shit we all do to some degree because for some time I was pretty much concerned about the plight of minorities (specifically black people) and the working class because I'm black and working class. Just like I've seen with you (I admit I'm not in every single thread) but the only time you seem to put on the crusader hat is when it comes to weight issues and things regarding females in particular wage discrimination and sexual assault. Here's the million dollar question with new healthcare situation coming to affect where we are all financially on the hook for people's health does that give people more grounds to monitor people's health ie their weight. I get that smokers endanger their health too and they should be addressed as well and drug addicts and alcoholics as well but they don't seem to have as big as an impact on the healthcare. I'm curious on your thoughts.
Well, there are topics I am definitely passionate about. Those you mentioned are among the list, so I do tend to gravitate to those areas. Healthcare. To be honest, how helpful is it to have sometime shaming you every time you decide to eat something? I think that something is wrong with a society that advocated eating the very things that are killing us slowly (grains, dairy, processed foods, legumes, sugar). Why do foods overseas have fewer ingredients than the same food here? Why do French fries from McDonalds have anti foaming agents in the USA, but they're illegal in Europe and the UK? I could go on, but I'm on my phone from my bed and I am too tired right now. Bottom line, we do have a stake in ensuring others are healthy, but it's not as simple as "put the doughnut down, fatty", and to think that it is is not doing anyone any favors.
You are correct there are more helpful ways to go about promoting healthy eating habits but one of the first steps to it is getting pass denial. Its annoying when people pretend they aren't overweight and others pacify them. Like a woman calling themselves curvy when they are obviously fat, same thing with obviously fat men who claim "it's mostly muscle". Telling someone that being 50 lbs overweight isn't that bad isn't doing them any favors. But I'm with you all the way on the food thing, the Monsanto Act is probably the absolute most damaging piece of legislation since the Patriot Act and citizens united. Unfortunately we seem to be more preoccupied with gun control and gay marriage, not saying they don't matter but the degree of attention they get would make one believe those two things are going to be the downfall of the US and its not. Allowing corporations to make money at the expense of people's lives will be. I'm also curious about the whole paleo thing. Is it really expensive?
So now someone's race they came out of the womb with is now on equal terms with the way someone has taken care of themselves or were brought up? Amazing.....This is an invalid argument because of appeal to pity, and it is a Strawman to argue that racism is comparable. Congrats on an informal fallacy.
To be fair to a lot of white people who try to equate every equality issue to race I get why they do it. I don't agree since I'm in a position to live the race situation and know its history its not the same thing, but for them its their only go to reference since its been talked about for so long. I agree for most, not all, being overweight is a daily choice having different skin color and hair texture isn't. Same as calling gay the new black is insensitive as fuck to me too since unlike being visibly black you can hide being gay. It may be uncomfortable as far as living your life but at least you're allowed to live and not be targeting from the moment you're blinked into existence. Not saying its not a struggle but equating it to race is a little ignorant and insensitive. On that note though we as black people need to stop acting like we're the only ones who suffer or have suffered or even have it the worst. I saw a guy driving his wheelchair from the train station the other. He appeared to be quadrapalegic operating it with his mouth. The thought really hit me, for all the bitching most people do we have it so much better than most. Who does that man complain to? Who hears his cries? As the economy gets worst and they cut all kinds of "social programs" what happens to people like him? Does anyone really care? So before most of us play the no one knows what it's like to be fat, black, female, male, or whatever physical trait holds you back keep in mind the mere fact that you have the presence of mind and a functional body to complain with is a blessing in itself because that shit ain't guaranteed to anyone.
This makes sense like nothing else on this thread. And to think you used to be the A***** I so disliked, you've grown DK :smt106
Edited What can I say, I'm British what you guys call snarky is a trip to the shops for me lol Sorry if you thought otherwise
So if I get on here and say "If there were no alcoholics/smokers/drug users/sex addicts the world would be a wonderful place." that's ok? Let's not even go that far. "If there would be no skinny/cranky/unhappy/uneducated/poor/sick people the world would be a wonderful place." All those things can be changed, just like weight. Your comment only points up your own narrow-minded and immature view. It was thoughtless and rude. And so are you for saying it. But I suspect you don't give a &*$#% or you wouldn't have said it. Bottom line: If you don't want to experience discrimination, whether the reason for it can be changed or it can't, don't discriminate against others.
Well, you know as well as I do that you have to get there. Speaking from experience, it can be so overwhelming that you're paralyzed to do anything about it, and then you try and you're working off of misinformation, like to eat oatmeal and lean cuisine! WTF is that shit? I don't trust the government health information as far as I can throw it. Monsanto...don't get me started. Paleo is more expensive than the standard American diet, but it doesn't have to be astronomical. Honestly, the book Practical Paleo is one of the best resources I've seen to explain Paleo and how to do it with a budget. Basically, be an educated consumer, buy in season, locally grown produce...organic if possible, especially berries and things like that (there's a list called the big twelve), and eat mostly veggies, protein, some fruit, and a little bit*of nuts and seeds. I eat better now than i ever have, and it's worth the extra money i might spend because I know that I'm taking care of myself. Long term, it's cheaper because I'm going to be healthy. I rarely get sick now, and if i do? It passes way faster than any of my friends who aren't Paleo. Every time.
