Materialism is not something that the US has a monopoly on, nor is it something that exists within all Americans. Again, it's an individual thing which by the way doesn't necessarily have any indication of how much (or little) money/things the person has.

People are people. Just like people have a very skewed view of what people in the US are like, so do we when it comes to those from other countries. And for those who will go on about how they know because they have visited wherever....ok visiting is very different than living there. That is absolutely ridiculous that whole bs of people are different is so lazy its annoying. Yes there might be slight variations here and there but individuals within a cluster usually follow certain accepted social cues or otherwise they are outcasts. For instances it is very common Jamaican culture for women to take care of home and let the man lead. Women have very little input and like it that way mostly due to the very Christian culture of the island. So if I said most Jamaican women want a certain man based on how most are raised that's exactly what it is.
Of course ALL aren't that way but aside from anecdotal stories if you're a conservative man looking for a wife who has old school Christian values go to Jamaica.
And for the record I don't fight not to be boxed in I fight not to be treated badly because of shitty biases.
Certain cultural norms are just a reality, you go to New York its safe to say most people here like to eat out, they love live entertainment, people often date outside their own cultural background.
The same can't be said for places like Blacksburg, Va
And the US does have a monopoly on materialism look at our consumption in comparison to every other country we consume more than everyone else. We love buying shit more than any other country even places like India and China where they dwarf our population. I'm not saying money doesn't matter to anyone else but the same judgement system doesn't based on material goods doesn't exist in the same way it does here.

We don't have the same resources as you. Going to the States is like a trip to the candy store shopping wise. And that's sad. Consider yourself lucky that you have sooo many options in every single way. We are behind on so many levels and it's not until you go over there or to Singapore etc that you realise how deprived we are here. Here all the stores are chain stores if you can't find something in one store you're fucked because it sure as shit isn't going to be at the next store an hr or so away. Lol.
