Anyone read about this? I've been losing so much sleep over it.

Wow another good one. Unfortunately people who run shit are so removed from the common folk they could give two shits about peoples feelings about self worth. I swear if I hear the word progress again Im gonna throw up. At least be honest and day progress for the wealthy and condemnation of perpetual poverty from the common folk.

dont let it get to you, as with all things technology, automation and improvements will always be a reality but you have to realize that with all the new technologies coming out there will will always be a demand for people.

I've seen how technology has transpired over the years and actually see an influx of tech jobs these days.

And this is why I hate the word progress because some how we think its better to have faster cars and bigger tvs but compassion and concern for your common man is something to be joked about. Sorry if thr idea of millions upon millions of men and women losing work and being kept out of the work force only to be left in abject poverty bothers me. Guess its their fault they didnt become rich huh

True but those jobs are advanced degree jobs your average person losing a job today has zero chance of getting one. Theyre just left out in the cold to starve. Eh whatever nothing left to do but get drunk and watch the ship sink lol.

i cant agree with you, as someone without a degree and ex-con I have never had an issue getting or keeping a job. nothing henders a person getting a job except themselves. am i working to get my MBA so i can be an SVP before im 40 sure but thats only because i want to and will make 250K+ a year. can i get there without a degree and all my years of experience yes but do i want to no.

efff getting drunk, just get into the clouds and call it a day.

It's ironic that it pretty much encompassed the OP link. And made a point I never considered before -- that the work-world will also become a very, very lonely place.

*On a media side note, I do love that they cast a BM as the sole braniac/Computer programmer. :D
And his lines were awesome.

The acting was incredible across the board. So much passion. I moght have to watch more. Are they all on youtube?
Btw lonely for who! Itll all be done remotely from home at some point. As technology gets better thats exactly whatll happen. The goal is to eliminate as much human contact as possible

Yeah, and when you think how many people WANT to work remotely ...

On a related? note, did you catch this link GL posted the other day?

    http://money.cnn.com/2013/02/25/technology/yahoo-work-from-home/index.html?section=money_topstories

(though they say her motive is really about liquidating workers so Yahoo's bottom numbers will be attractive to buyers).

Ditto. Pani, we knew about Dweb, but not you. You've def turned it around considering where you work, as well as the successes you seem to have thus far. :smt023

Yeah its the new ceo model. Instead of providing better service or better products just cut workers to falsely show a profit. Fucking disgusting.

good to hear man, its only hindered me once and other than that its actually helped me obtain tech jobs due to the nature of the offence. i know what you mean about it being an eye opening experience, i got lucky to only get caught for what i did versus everything else i was doing. before i was all about that life, after i just wanted to be a family man and be some what normal. it feels good to know the man is behind me and not stress if ill get pulled over or not.

considering the Rhodes Scholarship is named after a hella racist, white diamond miner who helped to exploit Africa and her riches....

hell no....and I wouldn't want any parts of it

    http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/television/1998/01/rhodes_to_hell.html

any black fool that aspires to be a Rhodes Scholar needs to do some fucking research

that's like saying you want to go to David Duke University of Fuckville

    Damn sage advice! :D

Eech, he really was a bigoted, elitist pig. Who knew. :x

And that Debeers -- I always read they manipulated the prices...I mean if you think about how abundant diamonds are...50% of what you pay for is the 'high class image' of what is actually a regular earth stone.

Saying traditional education is going to take a dive due to innovation, is a lot like saying the education of accountants will change due to inception of a program more complex than quickbooks. Sure the education will change but not enough to say that the traditional format will take a dive. Most of the innovation you see in electronics is on the systems level. On the circuitry level you see the same componets over and over. The innovation on the circuitry level is how those componets are arranged to do useful work, with transistors being the most sophisticated of those componets. Therefore innovation on the circuitry level consists of how you lump those transistors together, arrange them, bias them, what materials you use to make them ect. At the end of the day they are still transistors how they are arranged and placed in the circuit with other componets is what makes the difference. Therefore electronics will continue to follow the law that says: the more componets in the system the more often the system will malfuction. You could build a machine that can troubleshoot a large complex system, and ALL of the related subsystems, but the more complex it has to be, the more often it will fail thus still requiring troubleshooters with knowlege of electron physics and trigonometry to restore it's ability to fuction. So we will still have the systems analysts to isolate system faults to a specific computer, then will still have the hardware technicians to take that computer and isolate the fault to a specific circuit card and finally to the specific componet on that circuit card before repairing it, as well as software engineers to write the programs the system runs on and so on. The jobs that are being replaced by technology are the jobs that generally don't require a lot of thinking. Most people don't aspire to those jobs anyway, they will most likley be phased out slowly enough for some sort of decent transition.

Youre pretty optimistic my friend. I definitely appreciate that about you. I want to agree but the skill set for most of those jobs are far beyond most people working at supermarkets and as secretaries. I dont think theyll have a chance to catch up but I truly hope youre right and Im wrong my friend.
