What is the deal with people thinking that it is idiotic to negotiate with foreign powers without preconditions.

I agree that there should be PREPARATION...but after what has happened in the last 8 years....the U.S. is in no position to play "hardball"....playing Bush's brand of hardball is why we are reviled in the first place.

There is one thing i would love to say to all the Cheney and Rumsfeld style isolationists and unilateralists: Your conservative God, Ronald Reagan, negotiated with Mikhail Gorbachev, the ultimate Mr Freeze to America's Batman. And that was what brought about the collapse of the Berlin Wall, Cold War and ultimately, communism in the Eastern Bloc.

Seriously, how can we expect people to listen to us if we don't even want to see them?

Bush Rumsfeld and Cheney are far from isolationists. They are globalist pre-emptive globetrotters. Much in the image of Woodrow Wilson if anything.

True Reagan and Gorbachev had something to do with the fall of the iron curtain. Probably the massive spending the USSR was engaged in with the arms race against us, and more importantly a war with Afghanistan were also major contributors. The USSR fell because they went broke. Much as we are as we speak. Also much credit also due to the labor movement that swept through the Eastern Bloc at the time.
