Can Tiki Barber really be serious?

The NFL world has been abuzz the last couple of days over the news that retired New York Giants running back Tiki Barber wanted to return to the NFL after a four-year layoff.

The reports are that Tiki Barber isn’t coming back for the love of the game, but rather because he needs the money. The Huffington Post reported less than a year ago that Barber was in dire straits financially.

“Publicly derided for leaving his then-eight-months-pregnant wife Ginny for 23-year-old former NBC intern Traci Lynn Johnson, Barber now claims that he is broke and can't afford a divorce settlement.”

While being broke is a relative thing, there is no doubt that Barber's most profitable time professionally was during his NFL days.

So if Barber comes back, who’s going to want him? Word travels fast in the NFL and there’s no doubt that the rest of the league knows his time in New York wasn't cherished by his teammates. Barber has been criticized by fans, media, and former teammates like Antonio Pierce, for the guy he was in the locker room.
