I'm not watching this show on purpose, I've never heard of it before and I don't know if it's on every day or once a week or what. I'm on the computer and the TV was left on this channel. Anyway, I overheard that the next show is going to be about interracial relationships/couples and I thought some of you might be interested in checking it out. :smt102
Here's some information about his show:

It just hit me...Anderson Cooper has a big African-American fanbase. And he's definitely the black sheep in the Vanderbilt family.

Not at all. Watch the recent interview he did with his mom.

I didn't mean he was pariah in that sense. Rather, the Vanderbilts are all about business and they tend to be heavily conservative. Anderson is the opposite of all that. Yes, he's a businessman in a sense, but he's more of an entertainer and more out in the public.

I saw some of this Friday. A white lady in the audience said that black men use white women as a status symbol. The people on stage told her that was a stereotype and the media makes it seem like most black athletes date "others". They also said black athletes date out no more than regular black men and that 88% of BM are married to BW. But yet ppl make it seem like BM are abandoning BW. It's like they look past the 15 black couples they see in the mall and focus on maybe 2 or 3 interracial couples if that. Those of us who do date out are apart of a small minority.

I had to straighten out an old friend on this one - she really thought that was the reason black men were attracted to white women.

I mean, seriously, I'm a 53 year old middle class white woman with MS. How the HELL am *I* a status symbol for anyone?? :smt043:smt043

There were a lot of stereotypes verbalized on that show. I didn't catch the whole thing but enough to get an idea... For example, the BW on stage who refused to date anyone other than BM stated that BM might prefer WW because BW are known to be strong and dominant (or something like that) hinting that she believed WW are the opposite - weak and submissive.

A BM in the audience who was in an IR stated that BW had attitude insinuating that ww don't and that all BW had attitude. Puh-leaze. Just too much stereotyping and generalizations going on there to make it a truly valuable conversation, in my opinion with the exception of the gentleman that brought those stats of course. He seemed to have an open and balanced view from what I'd seen.

    you mean they arent?

those stereotypes peaked their heads around here on occasion also. some guys said at the end of the day, they didnt want to come home and fight with a BW, hinting again that WW are docile creatures with no opinion.

LOL. too funny. I think BW confuse strong and independent with having to argue every point. That doesnt make you a woman...that makes you an ass

There is the notion that marriage changes with human reality, seasons and history. The black experience, the women, is the result of the inconsistency of the economic and political demands, in another sense, contract that has always been aspects of marriage, with modern reality.

Could be that marriage has to evolve. Could be that participants in the marriage market have to adapt their expectations to the reality of the market. Could be the perceptions, if not real but deluded needs to be adjusted.

Nevertheless, the increasing marriage scarcity in black communities is actually present in most racial communities. There is an article that tackles marriage as an institution here. It is worth reading for those that have the patience.

Jacque Reid has been known to do varied interviews on the Tom Joyner Morning Show. That's sort of weird because I do remember her stating that she dated many men of varied ethnicity on the program.
