And Why aren't there more Black Republicans?

I'm not surprised by the song. While it goes out of its way not to be explicitly racist or offensive, the title along suggests the intent behind the song was not positive. Frankly I'm disgusted by the blatant racism, willful ignorance, and parochial mindset that has gripped the Republican party.

It's like they had a competition to see which party could attract the members most likely to respond to fearful rhetoric, divisive tactics, & apparently those the capacity to hate just because.

Thus far, the GOP has a commanding lead over all the rest of the parties. I'm opposed to aligning one's self with political parties, but I suppose that my thinking the POTUS's skin color shouldn't be an issue is far too liberal for some folks. :(

I have no problems with the Republicans going after Barack policies but when you mention race it goes after a whole group of people.

If this "gentleman" does win the chairmanship he will have to explain this action to African-Americans who he wants in the party.

I'm kind of curious as to what the benifits of being a republican are. Furthermore, I would also want to find out the meaning of the term "Country First".

    Please, enlighten me...

In my opinion "Country First" is a code word for racist white people to take back "their" country.

Not quite my personal interpretation of what it is supposed to mean, but you're not entirely wrong.

Btw, anyone notices how the only person who has so far publicly defended this moron is a black Republican? Hmmm .......

Now the GOP are doing some soul-searching.

Which means they will get together with the black republicans who will tell the white GOP decisionmakers their concerns on how to be inclusive. The problem is the majority of black conservatives cannot relate to black people as a whole. This will be a long process to bring in a respectable about of African-Americans to the party.

First stop using minorities as fall guys.

    Again, good luck.

This quote taken from the link in the post above pretty much sums things up.

As long as there are Rush Limbaughs, Sean Hannitys, Bill O'Reillys, etc. in the Republican party, there will be little to no incentive for minorities to join this party.

The GOP amazes me because they could easily get the power they crave but the insistence of winning elections on the strength of middle aged/older white people doesn't work in 2008...maybe in the days of 'Leave it to Beaver' but not now. Unfortunately...we aren't going back to 1958...so it's time to get with the program.

They want to use Hispanics as the wedge to break through. The idea that Latinos are "hardworking" people with strong "family values" ignores the fact that describes most black people. Blacks and Latinos are both just as conservative on certain issues...often we are actually more conservative than whites it's just that our conservatism isn't rooted in race and keeping the races seperate and at odds with each other..or returning to some past that really was only a great place to be if you were a white man.

Perhaps that is what the GOP represents for white men...a sense of nostalgia...like a nice throwback jersey. It reminds them of what used to be..when a WM with a 9th grade education could be a supervisor over a BM with a college diploma.

Anyway, the GOP is going to have to attract black AND Latino voters...you aren't going to win with just one because you will never get all of the voters in either group...only a minority. By embracing blacks...it means admitting that all of the divisive strategies of the last 40 years were wrong...until the GOP shows that it is a party that is willing to fight for people that aren't middle class/upper class, straight, Protestant, suburban/rural and white...it will be stuck in reverse.

The republicans only hope is to target the Hispanics to increase their power in numbers. After all the hispanics are the largest and soon in the future to be the most powerful minority group aligned with Asians in the country. The republicans will not need blacks.

This is just my opinion dont bite my head off.

For much of its existence the republican party had much of it power and base in the Northern part of the country. That was up until things started to change when FDR became president and started bringing many minorities from the republican base into the democratic fold.

Then much of the Republicans recent troubles really began though in the 60s when you had many southern democrats leave the democratic party when the party started shifting more and more towards the left.

Then in the 70's you had them start moving into the republican party and at the same time you had the eroding of the republican party power base in the North in particular the Northeast. With the watergate scandal the party leadership was so weak that these southern democrats that changed parties ceased the opportunity and took over the leadership and moved the party even further to the right.

Then in the 80s it was the Dixicrats, Reagan Democrats, and Christian Conservatives that overwhelmed the party and turned it into the republican party that we know today, and those northeastern republicans that once ran the republican party are on the bottom of its power structure and no longer have a real voice.

Those that came into the party brought many of their ideals with them and those ideals have come to represent the party today. They need to find a way to move back towards the center. Because now we see the opposite of what we had with the republic party having its strongest base in the southern and heartland states and the democrats in the north and pacific coasts.

Agreed. I just watched a documentary about New York Gov. Nelson Rockfeller whose bids for president failed because his brand of Republicanism was too "liberal" for the Barry Goldwater-ites. They showed a speech he gave at the 1964 Republican election where he was booed and heckled.
