i know right. if anyone with half a brain would say....."well hell that proves zim was the aggressor. the only thing a pot head attacks is the fridge looking for food. next, mary janes stays in the system for about 30 days. "

I don't think it does, but the article is pointing out that the attempt to delve into Trayvon's habits, associates, etc is an attempt to paint him as a dangerous black male in the white/mainstream mind, so that the jury and public opinion are ready to believe he's the aggressor, despite all evidence to the contrary.

its funny if true they need to bring up zims past....beating his wife, fighting the cops and lying at the bond hearing

That's the insidious genius of the 'Stand Your Ground' law. If you can simply convince the jury that the other person was the aggressor, the other person doesn't have to leave, no matter how bad or 'prone' to violence they themselves are, and are thus 'justified'.

These are the kinds of findings I'm referring to when I discuss the impact race has on the assessment of the facts of the case by the jury. I'm not calling all white people racist or saying the jury are klan members, it's simply the way people in this society perceive danger and the threat of violence, whether or not it's justified.

oh iof course. that goes without saying.

but i put that up to say SYg effect everyone and its a flawed law

I couldn't agree more. Removing the requirement that you seek to avoid a confrontation allows people to just draw and blast.

Radio host Tom Joyner has offered Rachel Jeantel, Trayvon Martin's friend who gained national prominence after testifying at George Zimmerman's trial, a full college scholarship to any historically black college in the country.

Jeantel, 19, appeared on Joyner's nationally syndicated morning radio show Tuesday, the morning after she appeared on the Piers Morgan show. Joyner said he was incredibly moved by Jeantel's appearance on the show, particularly when she said that she and Martin were discussing their futures. But he said he was baffled that Morgan did not ask her exactly what she wanted to do.

"If there is something she wants to do, I want to help," Joyner, 63, said on the show. (View the full audio here.)

He then told Jeantel that if she wanted to graduate high school and attend a historically black college, he would back her financially.

"I will help you get tutors to get out of high school, tutors to pass the SAT. I will give you a full-ride scholarship to any HBCU," Joyner said.

She thanked him. There are about 100 historically black colleges and universities in the United States, including Tuskegee University, which Joyner attended in his Alabama hometown of Tuskegee.

Jeantel was on the phone with Martin minutes before Zimmerman shot him to death, and testified for seven hours in the course of two days in the second-degree murder case for which he was acquitted late Saturday. While she was on the stand, she drew national scrutiny for her inability to read a letter she had purportedly written to Martin's mother about the shooting, and was criticized for her inconsistent testimony.

In addition to hosting his morning radio show, Joyner has founded multiple ventures, including REACH Media and BlackAmericaWeb.com. He was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1998.

What's that? Someone rather than criticizing & being embarrassed by her is doing some outreach to this young woman to set her on a better path in life & hopefully becoming a positive & contributing member of society? The nerve of some people...........

Ted Nugent talking about manners and 'correct behavior'? He did a distasteful act while trying to avoid being a soldier in the Vietnam War. What a hypocrite.

Tell me about it. I had totally forgotten about the draft-dodging. So now he gets to be macho by shooting deer with an M-16 and a compound bow.
