Who is going to see it? If you have seen it what did you think? I definitely plan on going to see it, not this weekend but I hope soon.
I saw it this past weekend. I really liked the movie. Honestly...I hadn't planned to go see it and a friend of mine saw it on Friday night and really liked it. My 19 year old son went with me - he really liked it too.
I liked and enjoyed it, but it isnt Scarface by a long shot. But I do think Bumpys life would have made a much better movie. Or even Queenies.
People should not compare this movie to Scarface, Godfather, Goodfellas or whatever other movies they want it to seem like. American Gangster is what it is. Just judge it for what it is. On a side note, the movie is great. Go check it out.
 Actually I would agree in not comparing it with the others. However...it's funny because on one of the scenes from Scarface did pop into my mind when watching it.
Saw it a week ago. It reminded me somewhat of Jimmy McNulty going after Stringer Bell (I'll give praise to those who get the reference) but not as great as that story (perhaps an unfair comparison). Still its a very good movie (8 out of 10). Very smart. Well written and directed. Great acting. I like it better than Scarface because, well, Scarface is the most annoying and overrated film ever (its a good movie but just hyped too much).
I'm seeing when I get paid again next week. Just need to find someone to go with me since I can't seem to ever get the gf to be around when I need her to be.
And about the topic at hand, i've been dying to see this movie. If Denzel is as good in this as he was in training day, it should be a hit. 8)
I say this at the risk of offfending fellow Denzel fans (he and Samuel L Jackson are my favorite actors) but Denzel wasn't all that great in Training Day. Don't get me wrong, he deserved/s an Oscar, just not for that. He should have won Best Actor for "Malcolm X". Never have i seen actor portray an already larger-than-life icon to the point where you think you're looking at the real person. It was so real that at the end of the movie (that is, on DVD versions) when they were showing clips of Malcolm X rallies, they actually had to point out that the footage is one of the real Malcolm X. Overall, Denzel should have been awarded for a better performance. Training Day was dope, but not his best work.
Frank Matthews, not Frank Lucas is the real 'American Gangster'. Why??? Cause he escaped from fed custody...and has never been caught. He's been on the lam for over 34 yrs. http://crimemagazine.com/07/harlem-gangsters-7,0218-7.htm The Kid Rasta 8)
I would agree Cris. Malcolm X is one of my fav. movies with Denzel. I guess i liked training day so much cause he got blasted at the end for being so crooked. And Samuel should have won an oscar for Pulp Fiction!! Black Snake Moan was really good too!!
Finally got to see the movie last night and I gotta say it's a top notch film. Very much I think Denzel should get some consideration at award time.
I just got back from seeing it and I liked it. A solid performance from Denzel. However, as an interesting note. I was the only Black person in the theater  As I left the theater, I asked a couple of elderly white ladies what they thought of it and they liked it. When I told my dad, he said I should have asked if the went to see it for Russell Crowe since thats who they were going to see. I didn't think of it at the time. BTW Lymari Nadal is just beautiful. No words to describe her. 8)
Yep, just got back from seeing it too. Great movie. I enjoyed it from the beginning til the end. I'll probably buy it when it comes out on DVD. Denzel should at least be nominated for an oscar, and so should Russel Crowe. Great performances from them both.
