I think you guys are under estimating how much what they put into food makes a difference. Yes some of it comes down to personal responsibility but ask yourselves this why are we the only first world country with this problem. Canada doesn't have this problem most European countries don't as well as Japan and many of them have adopted a more convenient lifestyle that incorporates more fast food more driving and more technology that encourages being inside more. Some people's sensitivity to certain drugs are differently than others. Not everyone who does coke becomes a bunny but a shit ton do and we are seeing that with food additives that cause cravings and chemical dependency. On the surface I get why people see fatted people and think hey get on a treadmill fat ass but there are so many studies and documentaries that show us how certain food additives affect brain chemistry. There's a reason why you crave a big mac and not just some burger from the supermarket there's a reason why so many people reach for the soda instead of water when they're thirsty.

And Arch free market capitalism is a farce my friend. Freedom is an illusion but to truly address your point we have government to protect us from the greed of the market. There's a reason why we have a food and drug administration because short sighted profiteers would gladly risk your life and health for a.few bucks my friend

I definitely am conscious about how often I and my family eat out. Not only is it expensive, particularly when feeding your kids, but nearly all the food choices are unhealthy, laiden w sodium, cholesterol, and fat! I save soooo much money planning out my meals for the week, buying my groceries, and the benefits of cooking at home continue piling up (leftovers, healthier food choices, correct portion sizes, etc.)

You can purchase more filling calories at McDonald for cheaper. 3.21 for a meal fam. That wont even buy two apples these days.

A buck a bag, 4 apples. So that's 3 bags, 12 apples. Where I buy mine at the local fruit stand, it's 99% poor to middle class customers. But I know NY and NYC has higher cost of living...so city location counts.

....I feel very proud of my self....Yesterday on my way home from the gym, I stopped at the fruit market and bought a papaya and a cantalope...I came home, clean them out, cut them up and placed the pieces in tupperware for refrigeration...now I have a healthy option instead of pastry as I go into the evening....then I went on line to read about the ridiculous amount of nutritional benefits for both fruits......

Bullshit, what the hell are you buying at McDonald s that fills you up for $3.21? Did you forget you have to eat the rest of the day? Happy meals on average cost $6.50 now, after an hour or so of devouring them I hear my starving African looking children moaning "I'm hungry" already.

Every time I go to McDonalds I spend $5 n change on a 20 PC chicken nugget meal because that's what fills me up. If I eat that 3 times a day I done spent nearly $20 in on day on food whereas I could feed a whole family with left over's on the same budget grocery shopping.

You and Arch make very good points. (similarly did Bookie and North).
    V. true at "I was the remote".

*On a side-note: I would be lying if I didn't say that burger (pic that I had to remove for my own discipline) looked mouth-watering. I am aware however, my reaction is Advertizing conditioning. Nothing green on there, sans the tomato. Bulk of it causing me free radical damage. And probably after the first 3 bites my appetite would be satiated. But would I stop? or eat it just because it's presented to me as a "meal"....

So yeah, it made me think that self-examination is now more important than ever, if anyone is going to be diagnosed now as suffering from an official medical Disease (or not).

A double cheeseburger and fries with a dollar coke is around 800 calories and you get that for 3.21.
My over all point is its not as simple as you guys make it seem. Its not just will power and shopping batter. You think people in Canada and Japan are just inherently smarter or just naturally pick better eating habits or is it because their governments don't allow their food to be fucked with the way ours is.

It's called discipline homie. I mentioned the food because it is a major problem. But,,, I eat whatever I want because I have the "discipline" to get off my ass and put in work.

And that's you fam. I want people to really think about this. Why are we so fat here and people through out the rest of the industrialized world aren't as fat? They aren't intellectually smarter, they don't work harder. Its as if they are literally pouring cocaine into your food. Not everyone experiences the same level of addiction if at all. You know what my bad I should know better. No disrespect you in particular fam but its becoming ever more clear the things we don't have to personally deal with as individuals are the things we judge most.
    Keep putting in that work

I'm saying, we don't have to sit around and wait on the government to mandate restrictions on our eating/foods we eat. We're educated people and know what we need to do. And if not, Google/Bing/Yahoo will tell them.

Nothing but empty calories that doesn't fill you up. You haven't been around the world to know what conditions other countries are in. Personally I don't see the problem with GMO foods, until I see folks turning into cows from eating lean meats that were grilled or baked, eating fruits and vegetables , the problem majorly stems from peoples sereditary lifestyles and poor eating choices/habits.

I just walked in on this...

Phuck what the AMA have to say about obesity. :-(

They act as if they have clue for a cure, but they only treat to symptoms. The human body acquire over 80 nutrients to function properly. Tell me at lease one fast food chain has at least half of your daily needs of nutrition.....

I'll catch up on all the post here soon, I just find it alarming people in groups (like this one) think they have an answer, it's all bullsh!t.

All of this is perfectly on point! People have a choice every time they put something in their mouth. They can choose something healthy, or they can make the choice to indulge in something greasy/fried/fattening. The problem is self control. People choose the unhealthy option all too often and then get discouraged when they find themselves 50+ pounds overweight. Eat smart and move your body (there are exercises even for the physically disabled). Its hard work but not rocket science. There truly are inexpensive healthy food options everywhere nowadays. Nine times out of ten, it all comes down to choices and discipline.

Which is why labeling this, smoking, gambling etc as a disease is dumb as hell! Soon enough they are going to label repeat criminal offenders as having a disease. "Well you see your honor I have this criminalinistic disease where I had no choice but to murder them innocent people, I just can't help myself"
